Job Description

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as one of the most progressive and innovative providers of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets. With a rail-served landfill in Ohio, the company has established itself as a leader in environmental services with a strong commitment to sustainability, safety, and operational excellence. Founded in 1998, IWS has experienced significant growth through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that continue to uphold the company’s values today. This unique blend of the capabilities of a large corporation and the personalized care of a family-run enterprise enables Interstate Waste Services to cater efficiently to a diverse customer base, including industrial, medical, commercial, and residential sectors.

Operating in the solid waste industry, Interstate Waste Services prioritizes delivering high-quality waste management and recycling solutions while maintaining a steadfast commitment to the safety of its employees, customers, and the communities it serves. The company fosters a culture where environmentally responsible practices and safety standards are integrated into daily operations, making it an attractive employer for professionals who value workplace safety and environmental stewardship.

The Safety Supervisor role at IWS is a critical position within the company's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team. This position is designed for a safety professional who is passionate about promoting safe work environments and compliance with regulations. The Safety Supervisor is tasked with ensuring that the company’s safety programs are effectively communicated, well understood, and actively adhered to at every level of the organization. Employment in this role offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually, reflecting the importance IWS places on attracting experienced safety leadership.

This role demands an individual who will act as a key liaison between employees, managers, and corporate leadership to promote a safety-first mindset. The Safety Supervisor will travel across IWS’s service areas, performing safety observations, conducting training sessions, and responding promptly to incidents, ensuring that all safety protocols are enforced and that workers are supported in maintaining a secure working environment. This includes specific responsibilities such as educating employees on safe job practices, delivering transportation compliance training, and systematically monitoring training records to ensure all employees remain current on required certifications and safety guidelines.

The candidate for this position must be someone with a strong background in safety compliance, particularly with knowledge of OSHA and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, combined with excellent communication skills. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred, enhancing the ability to communicate safety initiatives effectively across a diverse workforce.

In summary, the Safety Supervisor role at Interstate Waste Services is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to influence workplace safety and compliance in a dynamic waste management environment. This position is well-suited for safety professionals who are proactive, detail-oriented, and deeply committed to fostering a culture of safety within a respected and evolving company.
