Job Description

PACCAR is a global technology leader renowned for the design, manufacture, and customer support of high-quality light-, medium-, and heavy-duty trucks under notable nameplates such as Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF. With a strong presence worldwide, PACCAR not only focuses on truck manufacturing but also excels in designing advanced power trains, providing innovative financial services and information technology solutions, as well as distributing essential truck parts. This comprehensive approach positions PACCAR as a flagship company in the specialized vehicle industry, committed to delivering premium quality, reliability, and cutting-edge technology.

Peterbilt Motors Company, a subsidiary of PACCAR, stands as an iconic brand in the trucking industry dating back to 1939. Known for its red oval emblem, Peterbilt embodies performance, reliability, and pride on highways, industrial sites, city streets, and even remote logging roads. The company’s longstanding reputation as America's premium quality truck manufacturer is underpinned by its dedication to improving customer performance, enhancing brand image, maximizing profitability, and ensuring peace of mind for all clients. The company culture emphasizes innovation, safety, and customer-centric solutions, making it a leader in the industry.

This safety position is integral to the operational excellence of Peterbilt and PacLease, assisting the Safety Manager in the design and execution of robust safety and health programs. The role focuses heavily on accident prevention, safety training, hazardous materials management, ergonomics, and compliance with Department of Transportation regulations. Additionally, the position supports the Plant Emergency Team and manages safety-related administrative controls to meet corporate standards and regulatory requirements at federal, state, and local levels.

Candidates must be prepared to assume responsibility for managing safety department resources across the division, fostering a behavioral-based safety culture among leadership and employees, and spearheading initiatives to minimize risks. This includes handling environmental, health, and safety programs that encompass incident prevention and investigation, cost tracking, and recommending strategic improvements. The position requires collaboration with leadership to embed safety awareness in all operational and office environments, development of loss control procedures, and management of comprehensive safety training programs tailored to diverse workplace settings.

The role also entails liaising with OSHA inspectors, fire departments, insurance providers, and facility management, emphasizing compliance and proactive risk management. Candidates can expect up to 15% travel as part of their duties. The position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule from 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM, accompanied by an 8% shift differential, underscoring the company’s commitment to work-life balance and fair compensation.

This role demands an experienced safety professional with a Bachelor’s degree in safety or a related field and a minimum of five years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, ISO certifications (ISO 14001/18001), professional safety certifications, experience with OSHA and NFPA regulations, and solid industrial safety background. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential to effectively influence and develop a behavioral safety culture. Mechanical aptitude and understanding of heavy manufacturing environments further enhance the suitability of the candidate.

PACCAR values diversity and inclusion, supporting multiple affinity groups and initiatives to foster a welcoming workplace for all employees. Benefits offered include competitive salaries, a 401(k) with company matching, full pension plans, extensive paid time off, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, disability insurance, life insurance, and employee assistance programs that support wellness and financial counseling. PACCAR stands committed as an Equal Opportunity Employer dedicated to supporting veterans, disabled individuals, and diverse communities through mentorship and inclusion programs.
