Job Description
Osmose Utilities is a renowned market-leading provider specializing in critical resiliency, assessment, and restoration services for electric transmission, distribution, and telecommunications companies across the United States. With a deep commitment to innovation and safety, Osmose Utilities is dedicated to making utility infrastructure safer, longer-lasting, and more resilient. Their team comprises highly skilled field technicians, professional engineers, scientists, and corrosion experts who collectively leverage their expertise to address complex challenges faced by utility providers. By fostering a collaborative work environment, Osmose Utilities consistently drives superior outcomes that meet and surpass industry standards.
The company is currently seeking a US Safety Manager for its Wood & Technical Services division. This role offers the option to work remotely, with a preference for candidates residing in the Southeast US states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The Safety Manager will be a pivotal figure in developing and implementing comprehensive safety plans, policies, programs, procedures, training, and audits specifically geared towards electrical power and communications utility services. These services are performed by qualified individuals, including both qualified non-electrical and electrical workers. The core objective of this role is to ensure compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, customer mandates, and industry best practices.
In this influential leadership position, the Safety Manager will oversee a team of field safety specialists, working closely with operations leadership, field management, and crews. The role requires ensuring the development and implementation of plans and processes that promote safe operations while continually improving safety performance across all projects. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated experience managing a distributed workforce comprising both skilled and unskilled professionals, preferably in a field services industry. They will bring innovative and creative ideas to enhance engagement with employees and supervisors on safety matters.
Key responsibilities focus on underground operations and include ensuring hazard identification, conducting risk assessments, implementing control measures, and improving safety performance by identifying and sharing best practices. The manager will monitor safety performance metrics, both leading and lagging indicators, and implement corrective and proactive improvement plans. Mentoring and advising operations personnel on compliance with company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements will be essential. Moreover, the candidate will review new service offerings and customer project proposals to foresee potential risks and requirements, participate in pre-project planning, coordinate safety training, maintain onsite safety presence, and conduct audits and observations. The position also involves managing subcontractor safety oversight and participating in safety incident investigations with the goal of developing corrective and preventive measures.
As a vital part of the safety team, the Safety Manager will own the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of assigned safety programs. They will assist in reviewing and communicating safety-related policies and procedures, developing safety communications and training materials, and collaborating with adjacent business lines such as Steel Services, Underground Services, and international operations. This role requires regular nationwide travel ranging from 25 to 75 percent, reflecting the need for direct engagement with various field operations and customer sites.
The position demands physical activity including sitting, standing, walking, occasional bending, kneeling, lifting, and working with tools and chemicals under outdoor conditions that can include extreme weather, uneven terrain, and exposure to hazards such as poisonous plants and animals. Candidates must possess excellent computer skills and communication abilities, hold a valid driver's license, and have a comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations pertinent to electric power and construction. Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) are preferred.
With a robust benefits package comprising medical and dental insurance, vision coverage, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, critical illness plans, a 401(k) with excellent company match, and paid time off, Osmose Utilities offers a supportive and rewarding work environment. As an equal opportunity employer, Osmose encourages diverse candidates to apply and grow within the organization.
