The Safety Manager role at Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and advancing the agency’s comprehensive safety program. This position is charged with fostering a culture where safety is a collective responsibility and an integral part of each employee’s daily duties. The Safety Manager leads the identification, assessment, and mitigation of safety risks through strategic planning, policy development, training delivery, and ongoing safety improvement initiatives. Acting as the primary point of contact for safety-related incident reporting and case management, the Safety Manager promptly responds to workplace incidents, conducts root cause analyses, and works collaboratively with leaders across the agency to implement corrective and preventive actions.

This role requires a highly organized and proactive professional who can evaluate agency operations, facilities, and programs to ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements. The Safety Manager will conduct comprehensive safety inspections, risk assessments, and compliance audits, producing detailed reports and actionable recommendations for leadership. Coordination and delivery of workplace safety training, drills, and educational presentations to support a diverse and multi-functional workforce is a critical aspect of the role.

Additional responsibilities include leading the Agency Safety Advisory Committee by facilitating meetings, setting annual priorities, and reporting outcomes to executive leadership, as well as managing the agency's Behavioral Risk Management Process. The Safety Manager collaborates with various departments to promote a proactive culture of prevention and preparedness, empowering staff to prioritize safety in decision-making.

Given the nature of this position, the Safety Manager must excel in data analysis, risk assessment, strategic planning, and communication, possessing strong conflict resolution skills to effectively handle sensitive situations. The role demands adaptability, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and proficiency with common office software and internet-based applications. Although primarily a sedentary office role, occasional physical activity such as lifting up to 25 pounds is required.

The position operates Monday through Friday with potential evening and weekend hours based on agency needs, and includes travel to multiple sites.
