WSP is currently seeking a Full Time Safety Representative for their Los Angeles, California office with the flexibility to work within San Bernardino County and the Inland Empire area. This position offers a unique opportunity to be actively involved in construction management projects, contributing to the safety oversight and risk mitigation efforts that ensure a hazard-free environment on construction sites. The role will work closely with the Construction Management Team, ensuring that safety programs meet both client expectations and regulatory requirements.

The Safety Representative's core responsibility is to develop, implement, and maintain project-specific safety programs that align with the highest industry standards. Daily inspections of construction sites are a crucial part of the role, overseeing the compliance of staff, consultants, and contractors with safety rules and regulations. Additionally, the role includes monitoring monthly audits of consultant and contractor safety performance, utilizing accident statistics and compliance data to identify and address risk trends.

This position demands a strategic approach to safety management, involving planning and organizing activities towards achieving project safety goals and objectives. The Safety Representative develops and enforces policies, procedures, and standards designed to protect all project personnel and the public. Key tasks include identifying safety elements in consultants' work programs, managing insurance matters related to consultants and contractors, and preparing detailed reports for management.

In addition to technical responsibilities, the Safety Representative is expected to lead and train other staff, consultants, and contractors, ensuring consistent understanding and adherence to safety policies. Effective communication skills are essential as the role involves presenting safety information and updates to management and various stakeholders. The position also holds accountability for the safety of all subordinates, embodying WSP’s safety vision and ethical standards.

The compensation range for this position is competitive, between $166,400 and $228,800 annually, reflecting the high level of expertise and experience required. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of ten years of construction safety management experience
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of ten years of construction safety management experience
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Professional designation as a Construction Safety & Health Technician (CHST) preferred
  • Contractor experience as a Safety Manager highly desirable

Job Duties

  • Develops, monitors, and maintains a world class project specific safety program
  • Performs daily inspections of construction sites and oversees inspections of other staff, consultants, and contractors to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations
  • Assists in the monitoring of the monthly audits of consultant and contractor safety performance relating to accident statistics and compliance
  • Plans, organizes, and performs activities associated with the development and achievement of project specific goals and objectives
  • Develops and enforces policies, procedures, programs, and standards required to maintain a safe and hazard free environment for all project personnel and the traveling public
  • Identifies elements of consultant's work programs affecting project safety
  • Participates in overseeing the placement and management of insurance for consultants, contractors and subcontractors, and coordinates project construction related insurance matters
  • Prepares and presents written and oral reports to management
  • Directs the work of other staff, consultants and contractors
  • Trains other staff, consultants, and contractors, as required
  • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals
  • Maintains accountability for the safety performance of all subordinate employees
  • Exercises responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adheres to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs
