The role of the Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Manager is critical within AECOM’s Environment Business Line, focusing on fostering safe and healthy work environments across diverse operations nationwide. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team of safety professionals who provide support to AECOM Design and Consulting Services operations throughout the United States. The SH&E Manager will lead regional safety initiatives by delivering visible and active support, monitoring safety programs at various work sites including civil and building construction, and environmental remediation projects.
The SH&E Manager must possess the ability to quickly assess situations, identify actionable solutions to complex safety, health, and environmental challenges, and implement effective corrective actions. Responsibilities include incident management, reviewing safety and training plans, recommending policy changes, and coaching employees at all organizational levels. This role demands strong leadership skills to motivate teams and influence a culture of safety, working collaboratively across diverse teams to meet safety performance targets.
This position offers flexibility with a remote work schedule and is primarily preferred for candidates located on the West Coast or in Hawaii. Candidates should anticipate travel, including occasional overnight stays, constituting up to 25% of their time. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, public health, engineering, or other relevant subject
- 10 years plus of relevant experience in a SH&E role
- Professional certification as a CSP or CIH
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge of Federal OSHA, USEPA, DOT, EM-385-1-1, Radiation Safety, NFPA 70e, and other regulatory requirements
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite
- Must be able to motivate others, build teams and maintain forward thinking approach
- Ability to successfully influence and inspire others to work safely and effectively
- Able to form trusted relationships with clients, subcontractors and consultants
- Able to work productively with all levels of the organization including field technicians, engineers, scientists, senior managers and executives
- Able to work cross functionally in operations and partner with other internal stakeholders
- Experience leading geographically dispersed organizations
- Knowledge or experience managing environmental compliance such as RCRA, DOT, HAZCOM
- Experience with data management and/or analytics platforms such as Microsoft Power BI or Power Automate

Job Duties
- Provide visible and active support throughout the region for safety
- Monitor and assess safety programs at diverse work sites including civil construction, building construction, environmental remediation and construction
- Identify specific, actionable and feasible solutions to complex safety, health and environmental issues
- Lead the incident management process and validate the effectiveness of corrective actions
- Review site and project specific safety plans, training programs, audit protocols, and supporting safety programs such as rewards and recognition and security plans
- Recommend changes to policies and procedures that affect the region’s operations and employees
- Train and coach all levels of employees in the organization
- Assist operational group in meeting safety performance targets
- Conduct safety training, lead meetings and work groups involving various types of workers, adapt to group dynamics and create engaging learning environments
