Job Description
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) stands as a premier academic health center dedicated to education, research, and clinical service. As part of the University of Arkansas System, UAMS fosters a collaborative environment that prioritizes teamwork, diversity, and comprehensive healthcare delivery. Situated in Arkansas, UAMS plays a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes and advancing medical knowledge through its various programs and initiatives. The institution is recognized for its commitment to innovation and excellence, making it an exceptional place for professionals seeking fulfilling careers in healthcare and allied services.
UAMS offers a wide spectrum of benefits including medical, dental, and vision plans for qualifying staff and their families, competitive retirement plans with up to 10% matched contributions, education discounts for staff and dependents, comprehensive paid leave options including holiday, vacation, and sick leave, and opportunities for career training and development. Employees also enjoy exclusive merchant discounts and concierge prescription delivery services on the main campus when using the UAMS pharmacy.
The current opportunity within UAMS is for the role of a Safety and Security Ambassador, a critical position within the OPS Hospitality Services department. This is a regular, benefits-eligible position reporting directly to the Supervisor of Safety and Security. The role focuses on ensuring the safety and security of multiple family hospitality and service areas across the UAMS campus. Typical work locations include hospital information desks, ICU and NICU waiting rooms, surgical waiting areas, outpatient centers, discharge lobbies, and various entry points to campus buildings.
Safety and Security Ambassadors act as vital points of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, providing friendly and professional assistance while vigilantly monitoring their work areas for safety and security concerns. They play an essential role in reporting any potential issues to their supervisor or the University Police Department, thereby contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for everyone on campus. The role demands a balance of excellent interpersonal skills, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to follow basic instructions and company policies meticulously.
Candidates for this role should have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and experience working in security or hospitality roles with a customer service focus is highly desirable. Proficiency in computer use is necessary, alongside the ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality when required. The position is open to individuals aged 18 or older who demonstrate a commitment to work safely and uphold organizational standards.
Working at UAMS means joining an organization that values inclusivity, equal opportunity, and support for all employees. The University of Arkansas is an equal opportunity institution that does not discriminate based on age, race, color, national origin, disability, religion, veteran status, military service, genetic information, sex, sexual orientation, or pregnancy. Prospective employees must have legal authorization to work in the United States as a requirement for employment.
The Safety and Security Ambassador position offers a fulfilling career path for those interested in contributing to healthcare hospitality services while ensuring campus safety. With a commitment to staff development and a comprehensive benefits package, UAMS provides an encouraging and rewarding work environment. Interested candidates should prepare to upload a resume and may optionally provide proof of veteran status. Applications will be accepted through the University of Arkansas System Career Site until July 31, 2026, and applicants should be prepared for pre-employment screening including criminal background checks, drug testing, and education verification.
