Joining the Oshkosh Corporation as an Assembler within the Saber Frame Up department offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the production of vital heavy-duty vehicles, particularly focusing on the firetruck product line. The role demands thorough engagement with all stages of the assembly process, equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge to work proficiently at every station on the assembly line. Assemblers are key to identifying discrepancies that may affect the performance or quality of the products, thus playing a critical role in maintaining the company’s high standards.

This position is integral to the overall manufacturing operation, involving the assembly of various components, parts, wires, hoses, and hydraulics with precision and care. The job requires utilization of specialized equipment like torque tools, DC tools, brake bleeders, cab testers, jib cranes, and quality testing tools. Attention to detail, following strict safety protocols and maintaining a clean work environment in accordance with 6S standards are essential aspects of the role. Job Requirements

  • 6 months or more of relevant experience or a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience with basic hand tools
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks consistently and accurately
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Recognize and respond to abnormal operating conditions
  • Use and wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Hear safety alarms and co-workers
  • Perform basic counting and reading of tape measures, safety manuals, work orders, and blueprints
  • Follow supervisor and co-worker instructions
  • Maintain awareness of safety issues, hazards, and identify unsafe conditions
  • Maintain balance while walking or standing, including on slippery floors
  • Safely climb on portable steps, ladders, and trucks
  • Lift and manipulate parts or equipment weighing up to 35 lbs
  • Stand for extended periods, bend, twist, and reach as needed
  • Use both hands for tools and assembly tasks
  • Assist co-workers with heavy lifting when needed
  • Safely operate and use heavy equipment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 6 months relevant experience or equivalent
  • Previous experience with basic hand tools
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing operations environment
  • Previous experience working in the Pierce Assembly or the Pierce Frame Up department

Job Duties

  • Interact with and follow processes through the Truck Builder system to confirm results and ensure compliance with standard work instructions
  • Follow written instructions with discipline to reduce potential assembly issues and performance or quality defects
  • Perform work cycles lasting up to 4 hours, staying in sequence and confirming completion of each process step before advancing the unit
  • Utilize special equipment including torque tools, DC tools, brake bleeders, AC chargers, cab testers, jib and overhead cranes, and quality testing equipment
  • Assemble parts, wires, hoses, and hydraulics while using safe and proper tools and techniques
  • Install accessories such as decals, mud flaps, cameras, and lights
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, complying with safety rules, procedures, and 6S standards
  • Assist in identifying and correcting back defects and drive preventative action implementation
