The restaurant is renowned for its simple yet soulful dishes driven by high-quality, ingredient-focused preparation. Its setting offers guests a unique experience with bold flavors complemented by stunning views of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier, just steps away. Whether guests choose to dine in the lively bar area, sip on creative cocktails and local beers, or enjoy a relaxing summer afternoon in the Chandon Spritz Garden, CURRENT has become a popular destination for both locals and travelers craving exceptional seasonal bites and celebrated cocktail culture. The ambiance balances energetic city vibes from Lake Shore Drive with the tranquility of the lakeside scenery, creating a memorable dining experience that embodies the best of Chicago's culinary scene.

The role available at CURRENT is for an Assistant Bartender-Barback, a crucial position supporting the bartending team and ensuring excellent guest service. This position entails a dual responsibility: assisting bartenders by managing stock and supplies, preparing garnishes, and supporting beverage preparation, while also maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the bar area. The assistant bartender-barback serves as an essential part of the bar operations, contributing directly to positive guest experiences by helping maintain an efficient, well-stocked, and visually appealing service environment. Duties include retrieving and verifying stock orders, preparing garnishes and juices, managing refrigeration supplies, scooping and distributing ice, and performing routine maintenance like handling beer taps and kegs.

Compensation for this position is hourly at $18.00, and it is not eligible for tips or discretionary performance bonuses. Working in a high-energy environment such as CURRENT requires manual dexterity, effective communication skills, and the ability to handle physical tasks, such as lifting and carrying heavy loads up to 150 pounds, and working within various temperature conditions. Previous hotel experience is preferred, but the organization welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those with U.S. military experience. Training and development opportunities are available to help staff grow within the organization.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who are passionate about the hospitality industry and eager to contribute to a dynamic team at an esteemed hotel restaurant. HEI Hotels and Resorts, the parent company, is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourages all qualified candidates to apply, even if they don't meet every single qualification. They emphasize employee wellness through comprehensive benefits and support, reflecting their investment in their workforce. Joining the team at CURRENT means becoming part of a celebrated brand known for its quality, innovation, and commitment to exceptional guest experiences in one of Chicago’s most iconic lakeside locations.
