The role of Runner/Expo is central to our service delivery, acting as the crucial link between the kitchen and our guests. This position demands high energy, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to ensure that each plate leaving the kitchen is perfectly finished and quickly delivered. The Runner/Expo must be adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously, including reading order tickets, finishing plates, running food, and effectively communicating guest requests and preferences. This role not only requires physical stamina but also the ability to engage with guests by describing dishes and ensuring their satisfaction upon delivery. Moreover, the Runner/Expo supports servers during slower periods by assisting with side work and maintaining a clean, organized workstation. This ensures both the back of house (BOH) and front of house (FOH) teams have everything needed to operate efficiently. By excelling in this role, you contribute directly to the smooth operation of the restaurant, enhancing guest experiences and supporting team success.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Good physical stamina
  • Ability to communicate clearly with guests and team members
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Basic understanding of restaurant operations

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Customer service orientation

Job Duties

  • Read tickets, finish plates and run food or delegate to a team member
  • Describe dish being dropped at the guest's table and ensure they are satisfied before returning to the kitchen
  • Retrieve any items guests may need to accompany their meal
  • Assist servers in side work during down times
  • Be sure station is set with all items needed by both the BOH and the FOH
  • Maintain a clean workstation
