Job Description
Jay Nolan Community Services (JNCS) is a reputable registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Based in Santa Clarita, California, JNCS strives to provide personalized support tailored to the unique needs and aspirations of children, teens, and adults. The organization's core mission is to help these individuals live meaningful, independent lives within their own homes and communities. JNCS is well-regarded for fostering an inclusive, supportive, and community-oriented environment for both the people they serve and their employees. Their commitment extends beyond care to include promoting dignity, independence, and choice in every aspect of daily living. The organization is recognized for its unwavering dedication to diversity and inclusion, strictly adhering to policies that prohibit any form of discrimination or harassment based on protected characteristics.
The position available is for a Full-Time Direct Support Professional (DSP) located in Canyon Country, a neighborhood within Santa Clarita, California. This unique role offers a special opportunity as it involves both personal and professional responsibilities. Specifically, the role requires living as a roommate with an adult who is Deaf, sharing household expenses such as rent and utilities. During designated working hours, the individual will provide direct support tailored to the client’s daily needs and routines, while outside of these hours, they serve as a roommate contributing to shared living responsibilities. The position requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to ensure clear and respectful communication, vital for fostering a positive and supportive living environment.
The role of a DSP at JNCS goes far beyond conventional caregiving. It is about empowering individuals to reach their highest level of independence and build meaningful relationships. DSPs actively encourage clients to perform tasks themselves rather than doing things for them, promoting autonomy and self-confidence. This job involves assisting adults with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities in various facets of life, including daily activities, personal safety, social integration, and accomplishing personal, educational, or career goals. Tasks range from helping with household chores, attending social and recreational activities, maintaining schedules, to providing emotional support and companionship. The work is hands-on and requires a compassionate, patient, and proactive mindset. Additionally, ongoing training and certification are integral, ensuring DSPs remain equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality care.
JNCS offers competitive pay with an hourly rate between $20.25 and $23.00, reflecting the specialized nature and importance of the role. The schedule involves overnight shifts from Thursday through Sunday, 11 pm to 7 am, with some flexibility. This role is a great fit for individuals who value meaningful work within a stable living situation while contributing to a collaborative household environment. Candidates with experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities, or those eager to develop such experience, will find this position rewarding and impactful.
Benefits include health and dental insurance, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, a retirement plan with company matching, paid CPR and First Aid training, childcare assistance reimbursement, pet insurance, and more. JNCS prides itself on supporting its employees both professionally and personally, with a comprehensive benefits package designed to promote well-being and career growth. The organization’s inclusive policies and welcoming culture make it a desirable place to work for those committed to making a real difference in the lives of others.
