Job Description
This job opportunity is with a healthcare facility that prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and infection control standards to provide a safe and hospitable environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The establishment strictly follows regulations and standards set by The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies to maintain high sanitary standards within its healthcare environment. This role involves various cleaning and disinfecting tasks as part of the hospital housekeeping team, contributing significantly to infection control and safe patient care areas.
The role is designed for individuals who work under direct supervision to ensure all assigned areas are cleaned thoroughly, disinfected properly, and maintained according to hospital policies and government regulations. The position requires access to sensitive areas such as medication storage and patient care locations, which demands adherence to strict safety, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance. This role is vital in addressing sanitation needs in patient rooms, discharge areas, treatment and operating rooms, offices, and public areas within the facility.
The successful candidate will be tasked with cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms, including typical housecleaning duties like vacuuming, dusting, bed making, and waste disposal with an emphasis on infection control and hazardous waste handling. They will also clean isolation rooms with specific protocols to prevent any hospital-acquired infections. Furthermore, the role includes maintaining clean public spaces such as hallways, elevators, stairwells, and other communal areas, always following established sanitation procedures.
Hospitality and patient-centered service are core aspects of this role, ensuring a hospitable service attitude and adherence to service recovery principles. Effective communication skills are necessary, especially when interacting with diverse patient populations including older adults and adolescents, requiring sensitivity and respect according to their unique needs. This includes dealing with patients with respect for age, life experience, privacy, and communication preferences. The employee must provide a safe environment free of clutter and hazards and must be knowledgeable of infection control procedures and universal precautions as part of their daily responsibilities.
Candidates are expected to be proactive team players who can work independently and efficiently while meeting time constraints and following both written and verbal instructions properly. Basic knowledge of infection control practices is crucial. The job also calls for the ability to use electronic communication devices such as pagers and radios to coordinate housekeeping tasks effectively.
This role offers a valuable opportunity to join a respected healthcare provider's team, where cleanliness and infection control are foundational to ensuring patient safety and satisfaction. While previous experience in similar roles is preferred, training and guidance will be provided to uphold the high standards expected in this healthcare setting. This employment type is typically part-time or full-time housekeeping staff with compensation in line with healthcare facility standards, ensuring competitive wages and a supportive work environment focused on health and safety standards.
