We are currently seeking a dedicated and reliable Environmental Services Technician who will perform cleaning and disinfecting duties in various patient care areas and common spaces. This role involves tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, bed making, waste disposal, and disinfecting isolation and treatment rooms in compliance with hospital policies and infection control standards. The technician will have direct responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in patient rooms, discharge areas, operating rooms, offices, restrooms, and public hallways. In addition to performing routine cleaning, the role requires adherence to all departmental sanitation procedures and maintaining safety within the workplace. The technician also consistently follows service recovery principles, providing hospitable service while respecting patient privacy, confidentiality, and HIPAA regulations. This position requires access to medication storage areas, demonstrating the need for trustworthiness and adherence to protocol. Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively under time constraints are essential for success. The role requires knowledge of infection control and the ability to adapt cleaning methods to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, including older adults and adolescents. Overall, the Environmental Services Technician plays a crucial part in supporting the healthcare team and contributing to a safe environment that fosters patient recovery and operational excellence.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience in cleaning or housekeeping preferred
Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to sanitation and safety protocols
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to use electronic communication devices such as pagers or radios
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of infection control and universal precautions
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations

Job Qualifications

Previous experience preferred
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form
Ability to effectively use electronic equipment such as pagers, radios, and other items necessary to provide housekeeping services
Ability to work well with others and under time constraints
Ability to effectively and efficiently receive and follow written or oral instructions
Ability to work independently
Basic knowledge of infection control procedures and universal precautions
Ability to promote and facilitate a culture of service and operational excellence and to model these behaviors

Job Duties

Performs cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms that may include vacuuming, high and low dusting, bed making and stripping, and removal of general and hazardous waste
Cleans discharge areas, medical wards, utility rooms, galleys, treatment rooms, operating rooms, offices, medical supply rooms and restrooms in patient care areas following proper infection control procedures
Cleans and disinfects isolation rooms according to hospital policy
Performs general cleaning in public areas such as hallways, offices, elevators and stairwells
Adheres to all departmental sanitation procedures
Adheres to all established systems and training programs to provide a safe working environment
Provides hospitable service and follows service recovery principles daily and consistently
Must adhere to the policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and other HIPPA requirements
Recognizes and adopts activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient/resident population and demonstrates knowledge of specific issues directly related to age of patient/resident population
