Job Description

Ronald McDonald House Dallas is a nurturing and supportive charity organization dedicated to providing comfort, care, and a supportive environment for families with seriously ill children receiving medical treatment. Situated in Dallas, Texas, this organization is part of the larger Ronald McDonald House Charities network, which focuses on alleviating the burden of medical travel by offering housing and meals in a safe and welcoming environment. The Dallas branch specifically supports families staying near hospitals in the area, creating a home-like atmosphere where meals and hospitality nourish both body and spirit during challenging times.

The organization prides itself on maintaining high standards of comfort, service, and community partnership through various programs including food services that cater to guests, meal groups, staff, and volunteers. The food program is integral to the Ronald McDonald House Dallas experience, as it not only provides nutritious meals but also fosters a welcoming atmosphere that helps families feel cared for and supported.

The Sous Chef position at Ronald McDonald House Dallas is a vital role within the kitchen team, working directly under the Executive Chef to ensure smooth and professional food service operations. This full-time role is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen activities, assisting in planning, supervising meal preparation, maintaining food safety standards, and supporting staff and volunteers in delivering quality culinary experiences. Salary details for this position are typically competitive within the nonprofit food service sector and commensurate with experience, highlighting the role's importance in maintaining the standard of care provided to families.

The Sous Chef will play an essential role in menu planning, food preparation, inventory control, and vendor relations. The position demands leadership in managing kitchen volunteers and staff, ensuring that meals served are nutritious, cost-effective, and meet any special dietary requirements for families. This role is hands-on and includes the possibility of filling in meal shifts, especially when volunteer meal groups are unavailable. Ensuring compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations is critical to maintaining the health and well-being of guests and staff.

Beyond kitchen operations, the Sous Chef will also assist in the development and continuous improvement of the food service program, collaborating across departments to enhance the overall dining experience. Responsibilities include maintaining detailed records to support fiscal accountability and adherence to city inspection guidelines, supporting volunteer and meal group coordination, and fostering positive relationships between staff, volunteers, meal providers, and families.

The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way by combining culinary expertise with compassionate service to families in crisis. The Sous Chef is expected to be flexible, including being on call for evenings, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather situations to cover shifts and ensure uninterrupted food service. Physical demands include the ability to lift items weighing 25-50 pounds and the capacity for standing and walking for extended periods.

Ronald McDonald House Dallas is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the organization.
