Job Description
H-E-B is a renowned grocery retailer and foodservice provider committed to excellence and outstanding customer experiences. Renowned for its vibrant community connections and dedication to quality, H-E-B operates numerous stores offering a diverse selection of products and freshly prepared meals. With a strong emphasis on teamwork, innovation, and customer satisfaction, H-E-B continues to be a preferred destination for food lovers and shoppers seeking exceptional service and quality products. The company culture promotes development and training, encouraging employees to grow within the organization while maintaining high operational standards.
The FOH (Front of House) Lead role at H-E-B is an essential leadership position focused on ensuring superior guest service and efficient daily operations of the front of house. This position involves leading front of house Partners in delivering positive, memorable experiences by taking orders, preparing beverages, delivering food, and ensuring cleanliness throughout the customer service areas. The FOH Lead acts as a key point of contact between the team and management, directing Partners, supervising shifts in the absence of the Manager, and playing an active role in training and developing team members. This leadership role demands a balance between operational supervision and hands-on customer service, requiring ideal candidates to be proactive, communicative, and skilled at multitasking.
As a FOH Lead, you will contribute to maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and compliance with industry regulations including the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). You will be responsible for ensuring the store’s front of house adheres strictly to standard operating procedures and hygienic practices to secure a safe environment for guests and Partners alike. This position requires a working knowledge of inventory control and ordering, as you may assist with purchasing duties and manage technical operational aspects when necessary.
Customer service is at the heart of this role, where you’ll be expected to provide detailed information about menu offerings, including specialized items like beer, wine, and alcoholic beverages. Effective handling of guest concerns and complaints is critical, fostering positive relationships while elevating the overall customer experience. Your ability to merchandise products effectively and use suggestive selling techniques will support overall sales growth and enhance the retail environment. The FOH Lead also performs front of house duties regularly and can proficiently handle back of house tasks such as food preparation and plating when required.
The position requires working in a fast-paced retail environment with the capability to handle extended hours and flexible, sometimes rotating schedules. Physical demands include frequently standing, walking, reaching, and occasionally lifting heavy items up to 50 pounds. Managing multiple priorities with a positive attitude and maintaining composure under pressure are essential traits for success in this role.
Candidates should be at least 18 years old and possess experience in restaurant leadership, ideally with familiarity in an H-E-B restaurant or a similar setting. Proven competence with restaurant Point of Sale (POS) systems is preferred. Basic culinary knowledge complemented by strong communication, organizational, and computer skills (including proficiency in MS Office and internet usage) is required. A commitment to training and compliance, including completion of alcohol seller and cash handling training upon hire, rounds out the qualifications expected for this key leadership position within H-E-B’s foodservice operations.
