Job Description
FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading provider in the freight transportation and logistics sector, specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services. As part of the FedEx family, the company benefits from a globally recognized brand known for timely delivery and superior customer service. FedEx Freight operates a vast network of service centers and employs thousands of professionals dedicated to maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability. The company is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment, emphasizing equal opportunity for all candidates including individuals with disabilities and veterans, in alignment with its policy of non-discrimination in all employment practices. FedEx Freight offers competitive pay rates and comprehensive benefits designed to support the well-being and professional growth of its employees.
The role of a Linehaul Driver with FedEx Freight is crucial in ensuring the smooth transfer of trailers between service centers and designated turn-point locations using tractor-trailer combinations. This position plays a vital part in the broader supply chain, responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of freight over long distances across various states, often requiring overnight stays. Compensation for this role includes a starting rate of $0.7342 per mile for linehaul duties and $31.93 per hour for non-linehaul duties, reflecting the value placed on the skills and responsibilities this job demands.
As a Linehaul Driver, individuals will be operating tractor-trailers, including doubles and triples where applicable, ensuring that cargo is transported safely and according to all DOT regulations. The role is not limited to driving; drivers must perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections to maintain vehicle safety and operational compliance. They are responsible for hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies, verifying documentation, and maintaining accurate logs of their daily activities. Drivers must also comply with hazardous material regulations, communicate effectively with dispatch regarding delays or equipment issues, and may occasionally assist with loading or unloading freight as operational demands require.
This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with endorsements for doubles/triples, hazardous materials, and tanks (automatic transmission CDL restriction is allowed). Candidates should have at least one year of relevant experience within the last three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. A clean motor vehicle record and compliance with federal motor carrier safety regulations are essential. Long combination vehicle operations are required in specific states, and corresponding qualifications must be met. The role demands physical capability to handle trailer equipment and perform various physical activities such as sitting for prolonged periods, bending, twisting, and climbing in and out of cabs.
Overall, this role offers an opportunity to be part of a reputable and dynamic logistics company known for innovation and commitment to safety, offering competitive pay and the chance for professional growth in a team-oriented environment.
