Job Description
Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH) is a distinguished private, nonprofit community-based healthcare system proudly serving a 22-county region spanning North Florida and South Georgia. TMH stands as a pillar of health and wellness in the region, boasting over 6,000 dedicated colleagues whose diverse backgrounds reflect the vibrant communities they serve. This extensive network ensures that TMH remains not only a leader in healthcare delivery but also an employer of choice for professionals seeking a rewarding and impactful career. TMH’s commitment to excellence is evident through its expansive 772-bed acute care hospital, a cornerstone facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by experts in various medical specialties.
TMH holds the distinction of being the region's foremost healthcare provider, recognized for its comprehensive advanced care services. Among its notable accolades is its designation as the region’s sole Level II Trauma Center, guaranteeing critical care for severe injuries with specialized resources and a highly skilled team. The hospital also proudly maintains certification as a Primary Stroke Center, ensuring rapid and effective treatment for stroke patients. Furthermore, TMH provides exceptional care in its Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), offering life-saving services for the most vulnerable patients. The institution is further renowned for its cutting-edge programs in cancer treatment, cardiovascular health, orthopedics, and surgery, positioning TMH as a beacon of advanced medical treatment and patient-centered care throughout the Panhandle.
In addition to its flagship hospital services, TMH encompasses a diverse healthcare network that includes a psychiatric hospital, multiple specialty care centers, six accredited residency programs, and over 50 affiliated physician practices. This comprehensive system supports an integrated approach to healthcare, promoting seamless patient experiences and outcomes from acute care to specialized and outpatient services.
The current role available at TMH is a leadership position designed for a registered nurse who will take charge of the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of one of the hospital’s patient care units. This role is critical as it encompasses all facets of unit management, operating on a 24/7 basis to maintain high standards of clinical practice and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will embody TMH’s mission, vision, and values, leading by example to foster an environment where evidence-based nursing care flourishes and professional development is prioritized.
This leadership position involves overseeing multiple dimensions including clinical nursing practice, staff development, budget management, environmental safety, and regulatory readiness. The successful candidate will have direct reports including registered nurses, surgical technicians, licensed practical nurses, materials managers, assistant nurse managers, unit secretaries, nurse externs, service support technicians, surgical support technicians, and patient care assistants. Reporting lines are established to the Chief Nursing Officer and the Service Line Administrator, emphasizing the role’s strategic importance to overall hospital operations.
This opportunity is particularly suited for candidates with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing as a requirement, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing being strongly preferred to meet the evolving demands of the role. Candidates must hold a valid Florida Registered Nurse license compliant with the Florida Statutes and Nurse Practice Act, and bring at least two years of job-related leadership experience, with five years being preferred. Additional specialty certifications in administrative practice or clinical specialties will further enhance the candidate’s suitability.
By joining TMH, nursing leaders gain the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact community health organization dedicated to innovation, excellence, and compassionate care. The role offers a meaningful career trajectory within a comprehensive healthcare system that values collaboration, diversity, and continuous improvement. TMH provides a platform for dynamic leaders to influence patient care strategies, develop teams, and maintain the operational excellence that makes TMH the region’s healthcare leader.
