Job Description

Doctors Medical Center of Modesto (DMC) is a prominent healthcare institution, recognized as the largest full-service hospital between Stockton and Fresno, extending its reach from the Sierra Nevada mountains to the San Francisco Bay Area. It operates as a part of the Central Valley Doctors Health System and boasts a 394-bed general acute care facility alongside a 67-bed inpatient psychiatric unit. Known for delivering comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care, DMC offers a broad spectrum of specialized medical services including cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, emergency and trauma services, minimally-invasive and robotic surgery, women and children's services, medical/surgical care, behavioral health, oncology, and critical/intensive care.

Doctors Medical Center is committed to providing high-quality healthcare and fostering a supportive environment for its employees. The hospital places a strong emphasis on professional development, work-life balance, and employee wellness, offering an extensive benefits package to support its dedicated team.

The role of Shift Manager at Doctors Medical Center is a full-time position with night shifts and offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $53.73 to $85.94, depending on an individual’s experience and qualifications. This position includes up to a $30,000 sign-on bonus for experienced candidates, reflecting the hospital's commitment to attracting skilled leaders in healthcare.

Reporting directly to the Director of Patient Care Services, the Shift Manager plays a crucial leadership role in coordinating patient care services and managing staff during their shift. Utilizing nursing processes and organizational leadership skills, the Shift Manager ensures that patient care is appropriate to the age and developmental levels of the patients served. A significant part of this responsibility includes assessing staffing needs, collaborating with the staffing coordinator, Nurse Director, and Administrative Nursing Supervisor to ensure adequate coverage that meets patient needs efficiently.

The Shift Manager oversees the delivery of care in an inpatient psychiatric setting, requiring at least three years of psychiatric nursing experience or an equivalent background. The role also demands prior supervisory experience, highlighting the leadership responsibilities inherent to the position. The incumbent must hold a current California RN license, have BLS certification, and maintain a valid California driver’s license along with proof of automotive insurance. Behavioral Management Training, as mandated by the hospital, is also required, ensuring that the manager is equipped to handle the complex and sensitive needs of psychiatric patients.

Physical demands of the role include frequent standing and walking, the ability to lift or position patients or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and the capability to push or pull with similar force. The job demands flexibility in movement, including reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and having strong manual dexterity and quick mobility. Visual acuity to perform position tasks is essential. Working conditions often involve exposure to contagious and blood-borne diseases, emergency situations, and occasional exposure to hazardous materials like radiation and biohazards. The role also requires an ability to handle unpredictable and high-pressure situations including multiple calls and inquiries.

This leadership position provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare community by guiding a team that directly affects patient outcomes. DMC prioritizes hiring passionate, motivated healthcare professionals who are ready to lead with innovation and compassion. The hospital offers extensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching; paid time off; professional development and continuing education opportunities; health savings and flexible spending accounts; an Employee Assistance Program; and voluntary benefits such as pet insurance and legal insurance. These benefits, coupled with a supportive environment, position Doctors Medical Center as an employer of choice for healthcare leaders seeking growth and a balanced career.
