This unit caters to a diverse patient population, particularly individuals experiencing acute and chronic renal failure who require advanced treatments such as hemodialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD). Within the 8N unit, nurses have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a range of healthcare professionals including nephrologists, social workers, case managers, and dieticians. Such collaboration fosters the development of critical thinking and clinical skills, allowing nursing staff to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care tailored to the complex needs of renal patients. Additionally, the unit includes 8 telemetry-monitored beds to observe renal patients facing cardiac complications, enhancing the capacity for monitoring high-risk individuals. \n\nThe role of the Registered Nurse (RN) on the 8N unit is integral to delivering high-quality healthcare guided by the American Nurses Association scope of practice. The RN employs the nursing process framework which involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patients while maintaining a patient-family-centered approach. The nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Leader and in accordance with Corewell Health's policies and procedures. This ensures that care delivery meets established standards and recognizes the positive impact of involving patients and their families in the care planning process. The RN also develops and implements teaching strategies customized to educate and support patients and their families, documenting all educational activities accurately in the health record. This position offers a full-time, night shift opportunity scheduled for 36 hours per week at the Dearborn Hospital site. This role is pivotal in advancing patient outcomes by fostering a partnership between the healthcare team and the patient-family unit, ultimately contributing to improved care experiences and health results.
