Job Description
The Helen Ross McNabb Center is a well-established behavioral health provider located in Knox County, Tennessee. It is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families by offering comprehensive mental health, substance use, and intellectual/developmental disability services. The Center operates various programs that serve a diverse clientele, striving to foster a supportive environment where both clients and staff are valued and respected. Known for its patient-centered approach and commitment to quality care, the Helen Ross McNabb Center employs a multi-disciplinary team to meet the complex needs of its community. It is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity, inclusivity, and the professional growth of its workforce. The Center adheres to rigorous standards to maintain accreditation and ensure effective service delivery, including the use of electronic medical records and up-to-date clinical protocols.
The RN Manager plays a crucial leadership role within the Center’s crisis programming cohort, offering both administrative and clinical oversight to nursing staff and related programs. This position is responsible for supervising and mentoring registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs), managing scheduling, and ensuring that high-quality psychiatric care is consistently delivered in line with behavioral health best practices and state regulations. The RN Manager is involved in onboarding and training newly hired nurses, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, and maintaining compliance with CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and Helen Ross McNabb Center standards.
The position requires an experienced nursing professional capable of leading by example and effectively managing a team under sometimes high-pressure conditions typical of crisis care environments. Flexibility is essential, as the RN Manager is expected to cover open shifts and participate in an on-call rotation when necessary. The role demands strong communication skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to implement positive change within the workplace. Clinical responsibilities include providing direct patient care under established protocols, completing all necessary documentation, and adhering to ongoing professional development requirements such as First Aid, CPR, and psychiatric nursing certifications.
The RN Manager will work primarily within the Center’s crisis cohorts, such as EmPATH, BHUCC, and others, but will not be required to provide community-based care. The role also involves managing staffing logistics like timesheets, leave requests, and performance evaluations. Travel requirements are limited to the local area between clinics and scheduled meetings, and a valid Tennessee driver's license with reliable vehicle access is mandatory. Technical competency with EMR systems and telehealth services is expected, and the Center provides necessary equipment such as laptops and remote access tools.
This opportunity is ideal for a nursing professional who is passionate about making a difference in behavioral health, possesses supervisory experience, and is eager to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment. Employment at the Helen Ross McNabb Center comes with a commitment to professional growth, a respectful workplace culture, and the chance to impact the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges. Candidates must meet specific licensure and educational requirements and demonstrate the physical, emotional, and professional capabilities essential to succeed in this demanding yet rewarding role.
