This role is for a Registered Nurse working as a House Supervisor on a PRN nights schedule, with a minimum commitment of 4 shifts per 6 weeks plus 1 minor and 1 major holiday per year. The position involves supervising and managing nursing service administration by closely collaborating with management. The House Supervisor will plan, steer, and coordinate daily tasks within nursing, create policies and procedures to achieve department goals, and ensure smooth and efficient operations. This important leadership position emphasizes patient-centered care, regulatory compliance, team guidance, and the use of Lean methods to improve clinical practice and outcomes.

The House Supervisor will play a critical role in managing daily business and administrative operations, focusing on quality patient care. Responsibilities include planning staffing as well as budgeting for equipment and expenses, updating staff on patient status especially critical cases, and reporting unexpected events promptly. Exceptional communication skills and good interpersonal relationships with department staff, doctors, patients' families, and outside groups are essential to foster collaboration and enhance care delivery.

Additional duties include preparing reports, maintaining records, managing equipment and inventory, and maintaining a database for generating timely reports. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, health promotion, disease management, and medication knowledge including dosages and side effects. The House Supervisor must also demonstrate excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. They must guide and train staff effectively, evaluate performance, and ensure accurate communication of patients' medical changes with nursing personnel and physicians.

Technological proficiency is necessary, with essential computer skills that include MS Office, email, security protocols, scheduling, payroll systems, and electronic medical records to increase operational efficiency. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of recent House Supervisor experience, with preferred experience as an Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse. Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are mandatory or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.

Job Requirements

  • Min of 3 years recent House Supervisor experience
  • Preferred Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse experience
  • Basic Life Support accreditation or ability to acquire within 30 days
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support accreditation or ability to acquire within 30 days
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in MS Office, email, security, scheduling, payroll systems, electronic medical records

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years recent House Supervisor experience
  • Registered Nurse license
