With a combined total of 712 licensed beds, this full-service health system is dedicated to delivering high-quality care and specialized medical services to the community. Penrose Hospital stands as the anchor facility within the system, boasting 300 licensed beds and renowned for offering tertiary medical-surgical services with a strong emphasis on elective and outpatient care. Since its establishment in 1890, Penrose Hospital has evolved into a prominent healthcare and referral center recognized particularly for its excellence in cancer care, cardiac care, emergency trauma care, and physical rehabilitation. Notably, the hospital holds the prestigious Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a testament to its commitment to superior nursing quality and patient outcomes. Located in a city known for its more than 300 days of sunshine, mild winters, and proximity to natural landmarks such as Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, Penrose - St. Francis offers not only a rewarding professional environment but also a desirable lifestyle.
The RN Clinical Coordinator position at Penrose - St. Francis Health Services is an integral role designed to support the department director and manager by coordinating clinical and departmental activities within the unit. This role is not a supervisory or managerial position but focuses on serving as a clinical nurse resource to the staff, providing guidance, assigning duties, and authorizing work procedures. The RN Clinical Coordinator demonstrates strong clinical judgment to ensure high-quality care delivery to patients, facilitating seamless communication and collaboration between physicians and the patient care team. This position is essential in maintaining effective communication among unit staff and other departments and involves providing input to leadership on coaching, mentoring, and performance management of associates.
Responsibilities encompass acting as a professional role model by adhering to ethical, legal, and professional nursing standards, while promoting patient safety, well-being, and optimal health through the nursing process and state nurse practice requirements. The RN Clinical Coordinator also actively participates on the unit as a registered nurse, taking patient assignments according to unit and patient needs and acuity. Additionally, the individual assumes accountability for relationship-based care aligned with the organization's mission and core values.
Candidates with GI (gastrointestinal) experience are required, while previous leadership, charge nurse, or coordinator experience is preferred. Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining unit efficiency, scheduling staff assignments to meet daily needs, communicating and coaching staff regarding case changes, enforcing policy adherence and high practice standards, supporting educational initiatives for department associates, leading within the department, liaising between surgeons and staff, assisting with staff training and competency evaluation, managing necessary supplies and instruments, staffing support, and occasionally helping in other parts of the unit.
This full-time or part-time position offers a variable 40-hour workweek schedule depending on unit needs, typically involving 8 to 9-hour shifts. Call responsibilities include one 24-hour shift, one 12-hour shift every 4-6 weeks, and one Friday on a similar rotation. The unit consistently operates two rooms for procedures with a third room as backup, managing approximately 20-30 cases per day. The clinical team usually comprises 1 RN, one technician, a GI physician, and an anesthesiologist, with RNs responsible for preoperative, postoperative, and PACU duties.
Qualified external applicants with at least six months of direct RN experience are eligible for a $20,000 sign-on bonus, provided they are hired into full-time or part-time positions (PRN positions excluded). RN Clinical Coordinators may also qualify for a relocation bonus up to $10,000. This role offers an hourly pay range of $37.31 to $66.91, reflecting the expertise and commitment required for this critical clinical coordination position at a leading healthcare provider in Colorado Springs.
