The Class B Driver (Retail Technician) role at Clean Harbors in Santa Ana, CA, is a pivotal position responsible for providing comprehensive environmental services. The role involves collecting and disposing of damaged, discarded, or recalled products, recycling various materials such as light bulbs, oil, oil filters, and engine fluids, and performing on-site cleanup activities at retail customer locations. This position offers a unique opportunity for new hires as the company will sponsor CDL B training, including hazmat and tanker endorsements, accompanied by a two-week mandatory out-of-state paid training academy. Employees in this role work Monday through Friday from 5 AM to 5 PM or 7 PM with substantial overtime opportunities, and most importantly, they get to be home every night. The role involves both driving a box truck and performing general labor duties, which include heavy lifting (over 50 lbs) and helping pack hazardous waste under supervision initially, with the potential to become solo-approved for independent routes after obtaining the appropriate Class B CDL and endorsements.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous commercial driving experience preferred
  • Previous route experience preferred
  • Previous manual labor experience preferred
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting over 50 lbs
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday 5 AM to 5 PM or 7 PM with overtime
  • Must be able to undergo background check, drug screening, and physical examination
  • Must comply with company health and safety policies
  • Willingness to participate in out-of-state training academy
  • Ability to work safely in hazardous environments

Job Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Ability to perform physical functions per job requirements
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position
  • Meet facial hair standards per OSHA's Respiratory Protection standard 29 CFR 1910.34

Job Duties

  • Ensure health and safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
  • Pick up, pack and transport damaged and discarded goods management, and recalled products
  • Load, pack and segregate materials and waste products
  • Drive a box truck, visiting retail customer sites
  • Segregate, pack and load materials and waste products for safe transportation
  • Interact with customers at each stop
  • Prepare DOT shipping documents
  • Use of a laptop, printer, handheld, and iPhone to complete tasks
  • Conduct projects/jobs according to site specific Federal, State and local regulations and health and safety plans as well as Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. policies and procedures
  • Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations including fortune 500 companies
  • Responsible for final preparation and approval of all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT and company policies
  • Understand customer specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements
  • Ensure drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance with company’s policies and procedures
  • Follow all local, state and federal compliance regulations and rules
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state and federal requirements
  • Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned
