Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer in North America, focused on providing all things creative for crafting and celebrating. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online platforms at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. As the go-to destination for creativity and celebration, Michaels is committed to inspiring people of all ages by offering a vast selection of high-quality craft supplies, art materials, framing products, and seasonal décor. The company prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for both its customers and Team Members, emphasizing innovation, joy, and community involvement.

The Store position at the Wichita-Maize Rd location in Kansas involves a dynamic and multifaceted role centered around event coordination, customer service, and operational excellence. This position is uniquely focused on planning, coordinating, and facilitating events within the store, particularly children’s birthday parties and various craft classes, creating engaging, stress-free, and exciting experiences for guests. The role demands strong people skills and an ability to engage with clients of all ages — from young children to seniors — fostering a welcoming environment of creativity and fun.

Key responsibilities include managing multiple events simultaneously, instructing participants in craft project completion, facilitating additional party features such as goody bags and balloons, managing communication with clients and team members, and ensuring satisfaction for all scheduled events. These tasks combine event planning with customer interaction, requiring excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to adjust plans according to client feedback and manage emergencies effectively.

In addition to event coordination, the Store position encompasses providing a friendly, efficient shopping experience to customers by assisting with product selection, educating on programs such as Rewards and Private Label Credit Cards, and facilitating Omni-channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Team Members support the operational side of the business through activities like truck unloading, stocking, maintaining store standards, and adhering to compliance policies and safety regulations.

At Michaels, employee wellbeing is prioritized through comprehensive benefits for both full-time and part-time Team Members, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer dedicated to inclusivity, offering reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities to ensure all employees can perform their roles effectively. This position offers an exciting opportunity for energetic, creative individuals with experience in retail, customer service, and children’s event coordination to thrive in a supportive and innovative retail environment.
