Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. stands as the premier destination for creativity and celebration, serving customers across North America through over 1,300 stores located in 49 states and Canada, as well as online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is synonymous with arts and crafts, offering an extensive range of supplies for crafting, home décor, framing, and seasonal celebrations. Additionally, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further solidifying its position as a leader in the creative retail industry. At Michaels, the commitment goes beyond just providing products; it fosters an environment that fuels the joy of creativity and community engagement. The company places a strong emphasis on creating fulfilling experiences for both its customers and employees, promoting innovation, inclusion, and continuous growth.

The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in Hamburg, NY, is pivotal in bringing this creative spirit to life, particularly by planning, coordinating, and facilitating engaging in-store events. This includes popular children’s birthday parties and various craft classes or special events designed to appeal to guests of all ages. As an Event Coordinator, the individual is responsible for crafting an enjoyable, stress-free experience that encourages creativity and fun for guests ranging from very young children to adults. This role demands a highly energetic and enthusiastic personality, capable of managing multiple events simultaneously while maintaining a welcoming and creative atmosphere.

Beyond event coordination, the role encompasses a customer-centric focus, requiring the delivery of friendly, fast, and courteous service throughout the store. Helping customers locate products, explaining benefits of loyalty programs and private label credit cards, and facilitating smooth checkout processes are all critical functions. The coordinator also supports various operational tasks such as unpacking truck deliveries, maintaining merchandise standards including planograms, and participating in efforts to optimize stock on hand and overall store recovery. As part of the company's commitment to quality and safety, the coordinator must uphold cleanliness, safety standards, and compliance with company policies and legal requirements. The position demands communication and organizational skills to handle administrative responsibilities like managing emails, calls, and event documentation.

Working at Michaels means being part of a team that values positive interactions, respect, and contributing to the company’s vision. The role also requires cross-training in custom framing sales and production, showcasing a versatile skill set that supports multiple facets of store operations. Physically, the job involves standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, lifting and stocking merchandise, and working in various environments, some climate-controlled and others less so. Michaels supports team members through comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts, underpinning a workplace culture that supports professional and personal growth.

Ultimately, the Event Coordinator at Michaels is a vital team member who brings artistic celebrations to life while ensuring exceptional customer experiences and operational excellence. This role not only enhances the shopping environment but also allows for creative expression and community connection, making it an exciting and rewarding opportunity within a vibrant retail setting. The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $16.00 to $18.80, reflecting Michaels’ dedication to valuing its team members’ contributions and expertise.
