Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is North America's leading arts and crafts retail destination, renowned for inspiring creativity and celebration. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a specialized manufacturer of custom framing merchandise, further extending its footprint in the craft and creative sector. Michaels' purpose centers on fueling the joy of creativity and celebration, consistently delivering innovative products and memorable experiences to customers of all ages. As a retail establishment deeply embedded in community engagement and artistic expression, Michaels fosters a culture where creativity and customer satisfaction take priority.

This role is based at the Michaels store in Hamburg, NY, and is a part-time position with a pay range between $16.00 and $18.80 per hour. The position centers on event coordination and delivering exceptional customer service in a dynamic retail environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring that each event runs smoothly and provides a fun, engaging experience for guests. The coordinator will engage clients ranging in age from 4 to 94, actively creating an atmosphere of creativity and enjoyment. This includes demonstrating craft projects, performing face painting, handling party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout all scheduled events. Additionally, administrative responsibilities such as managing communications and paperwork are essential to support successful event execution.

Beyond event coordination, this position requires providing outstanding customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, educating them about loyalty programs, and facilitating a fast, friendly checkout experience. The role also involves completing operational duties such as truck unloads, merchandise stocking, planogram adherence, and maintaining store recovery standards. The coordinator will participate in Omni channel processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), support safety and shrink programs, and ensure compliance with company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Ideal candidates will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, have prior retail or customer service experience, and be comfortable working with children at events. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, lifting heavy boxes, and accessing high shelves safely. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings. Michaels prioritizes team wellbeing and offers comprehensive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to inclusivity, offering reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities. This exciting part-time opportunity is perfect for energetic, enthusiastic individuals passionate about creativity, customer service, and community engagement.
