Job Description
Palmetto Goodwill Industries is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals and communities through employment, training, and support services. As part of its mission, Palmetto Goodwill operates numerous retail stores across its service area, offering quality donations such as clothing, household items, and more to the public at affordable prices. These retail locations not only serve as a vital source of funding for Palmetto Goodwill’s programs but also act as community hubs where donors, shoppers, and volunteers converge to support positive social impact. The organization prides itself on its core values represented by the acronym I-CARE, which stands for Integrity, Collaboration, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence—values that are central to every team member's role and service to the community.
The Retail Team Member II at Palmetto Goodwill is a crucial frontline position that plays a significant role in shaping the customer experience and operational efficiency within the retail environment. This role is responsible for receiving and efficiently processing donations, sorting and pricing merchandise, stocking shelves, and providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers. As the face of Palmetto Goodwill retail, team members fully embody the organization’s commitment to delivering Amazing Customer Experiences (ACE) by engaging with donors, shoppers, and colleagues warmly and professionally every day.
The Retail Team Member II position involves a variety of dynamic tasks such as accurately utilizing the point-of-sale system to complete sales, encouraging customers to contribute to Palmetto Goodwill’s mission through round-up donations, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace. Team members are trained to work flexibly across roles including cashiering, softline and hardline production, and donor services, which fosters both individual growth and operational excellence. This position also requires adherence to regulatory standards and organizational safety policies to ensure a secure and compliant workplace environment.
Palmetto Goodwill values ongoing learning and development, and team members are encouraged to participate actively in training opportunities to expand their skills and competencies. Inclusion and diversity are celebrated vigorously; the organization strives to create a culture of belonging where every team member feels respected and supported. Retail Team Member II candidates should be adaptable and proactive, thriving in a fast-paced retail setting while demonstrating professionalism and effective teamwork. A flexible schedule including weekends is required, and reliability in transportation is essential. Prior retail experience is preferred but not mandatory, as comprehensive training and support are provided.
This role offers an impactful opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while developing valuable customer service and retail skills within a supportive community-oriented environment. Team members help to promote sustainability and social equity by facilitating the reuse of donated goods and supporting Palmetto Goodwill’s programs that empower individuals with job training and placement services. Overall, the Retail Team Member II is a vital contributor to the mission-driven work of Palmetto Goodwill, making this position rewarding both personally and professionally.
