Job Description

Palmetto Goodwill is a well-established nonprofit organization that operates a network of retail stores, dedicated to providing community support through its mission of helping individuals achieve independence and self-sufficiency. The organization thrives on creating positive community impact by offering affordable merchandise through its retail locations, which fund programs that empower people in need. Palmetto Goodwill is known for its strong commitment to its core values of Integrity, Collaboration, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence, which are collectively referred to as I-CARE. These values ensure that every interaction within the company and with its customers is conducted with professionalism and empathy. The retail stores serve as the public-facing component of the organization, where donors, customers, and community members engage with the mission through the donation and purchase process. Positioned as the face of Palmetto Goodwill's retail presence, the Retail Team Member II plays a crucial role in delivering the Amazing Customer Experience (ACE) that the organization is proud of. This is a vital role within the retail team involving dynamic responsibilities such as receiving and sorting donations, processing items for sale, maintaining merchandising standards, and directly interacting with customers and donors. Team members in this role utilize the GRATIS method—Greet, Receipt, Assist, Thank, Invite back, Sort—to ensure an efficient and warm donation experience, actively supporting the mission by encouraging customer contributions and engagement.

The Retail Team Member II position is not just about operational tasks but also about embodying the organization's culture of diversity, inclusivity, and belonging. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally over 50 pounds, requiring a level of fitness and adaptability.

This role demands excellent interpersonal skills, multi-tasking abilities, and flexibility to handle fast-paced retail demands while creating inviting experiences for customers and donors. Working hours require flexibility to include weekends, and reliable transportation is needed. Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of retail systems are essential to perform point-of-sale transactions and accurately record donations and merchandise production. Previous retail experience is preferred but not mandatory, and education from any primary or secondary level is acceptable. The position provides an opportunity for individuals who thrive in diverse and dynamic environments to contribute meaningfully to their communities while developing their professional skills within a reputable and mission-driven organization.
