Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a premier arts and crafts retail chain dedicated to inspiring creativity and celebration in communities across North America. With over 1,300 stores operating in 49 states and Canada, and a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, Michaels stands as the leading destination for all things creative. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is committed to fostering an inclusive and engaging environment that embraces innovation, customer satisfaction, and team member growth. The organization prioritizes a culture where creativity thrives, supported by comprehensive benefits and an unwavering commitment to equal opportunity employment.
As a Store Event Coordinator at the Michaels store located on Lexington-Nicholasville Road in Kentucky, you will play a vital role in creating memorable and enjoyable experiences for guests through meticulous planning, coordination, and facilitation of in-store events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This role offers the unique opportunity to engage with a diverse clientele - from young children to seniors aged 94 and older - by fostering an environment filled with fun, creativity, and community spirit. The position demands not only event planning expertise but also excellent customer service skills to assist shoppers throughout their entire store experience, ensuring fast and friendly checkout services while helping customers find their desired products.
The Event Coordinator will be responsible for a broad range of duties, such as overseeing event logistics, delivering engaging craft demonstrations like face painting and project instructions, coordinating event add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and managing both client communications and administrative tasks. Flexibility and creativity are key, as the role requires adapting plans to meet client needs and feedback while having backup strategies in place to handle unexpected situations. Maintaining store cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is also crucial to uphold the brand’s promise.
Beyond event management, the successful candidate will actively contribute to overall store operations, including unloading merchandise from trucks, stocking shelves, maintaining planograms, and executing store recovery tasks aligned with company standards. Customer interaction extends from assisting buyers in navigating the store to enrolling them in rewards programs and private label credit card offerings, as well as promoting participation in feedback mechanisms such as the Voice of Customer survey. Experience in retail environments and customer service is essential to handle the pace and demands of the store while supporting shrink and safety programs.
In addition to the dynamic and fast-paced retail setting, this role requires physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods, perform frequent bending, lifting, and stretching, and safely manage inventory tasks like handling heavy boxes and accessing high shelves. The work environment is predominantly climate-controlled, with some areas such as stock rooms and outdoor spaces subject to variable conditions. Working hours may encompass nights, weekends, and early mornings.
Michaels provides extensive benefits to support its team members and their families, including a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical, dental, and vision coverage, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits, tuition and adoption assistance, and voluntary insurance options. Everyday perks such as employee discounts and access to partner programs also enhance the team member experience.
Michaels is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to inclusivity and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to fully participate in employment and career development opportunities. This role is ideal for individuals who are energetic, enthusiastic, and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, coupled with a passion for creativity and customer engagement. If you thrive in a vibrant, customer-focused retail environment and enjoy planning and executing engaging events, this position offers a rewarding chance to contribute significantly to the Michaels brand and its community presence.
