Job Description

Michaels is the leading specialty retailer of arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall décor, and seasonal merchandise with over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, plus a robust online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has become a trusted and inspiring destination for creative individuals of all ages, offering a wide range of products and services to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, which extends Michaels’ expertise in the crafting and framing industry. With a commitment to providing exceptional customer service, Michaels fosters an inclusive and engaging environment where team members have the opportunity to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact on their communities.

This particular role is based at the Lexington-Nicholasville Road Michaels store in Kentucky, focusing on event planning and customer engagement within the store. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes, creating a dynamic and interactive experience for guests spanning all age groups. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring a stress-free, fun, and enjoyable environment that promotes creativity and customer satisfaction.

Working as an Event Coordinator and Customer Service Associate at Michaels entails a blend of operational duties and customer interaction. Beyond event management, responsibilities include assisting customers with shopping, providing fast and friendly checkout experiences, and supporting merchandising tasks such as receiving stock, stocking shelves, and maintaining the store's appearance. The role embraces a customer-first philosophy that emphasizes personalized service, educating customers about rewards programs, and optimizing the shopping experience through omni-channel processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS).

Michaels places high value on teamwork, positive communication, and the ability to gracefully handle stressful situations. This position demands strong organizational skills, creative problem-solving ability, and excellent interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse client base and collaborate with team members. Experience working with children and managing children's events is particularly important, alongside the capacity to execute administrative tasks including communications and paperwork related to events.

The physical requirements include standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and navigating the store with agility. The work environment is primarily a public retail store with climate-controlled customer areas, though some stockrooms are not climate controlled, and occasional outdoor tasks are needed. Work schedules may include nights, weekends, and early mornings to support store operations and events.

Michaels offers a variety of benefits to support its team members and their families, including health coverage options, retirement plans with employer match, employee assistance programs, and opportunities for professional development through tuition assistance. The company is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accommodation, ensuring all team members have access to necessary resources and supports to thrive. Michaels encourages individuals looking to contribute to a creative, customer-oriented environment to apply and become part of their mission to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration.
