Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a renowned retailer specializing in arts and crafts supplies, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the United States and Canada. Since its founding in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as a leader in the creative retail industry, committed to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for customers of all ages. Alongside Michaels stores, the company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further broadening its creative offerings. Known for its extensive product range, Michaels serves as the go-to destination for individuals looking to create, celebrate, and express their artistic talents through a wide array of supplies and classes.
The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store located in Pitt-Waterfront, PA, offers an exciting opportunity to engage with the creative community by planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events within the store environment. This position primarily focuses on organizing events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring a fun, stress-free, and memorable experience for all guests. The Event Coordinator plays a vital role in achieving the store’s Brand Promises by delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining store operational standards. Responsibilities include assisting customers during their shopping experience, providing product knowledge, and offering solutions to enhance their visit.
The Event Coordinator is expected to handle multiple events concurrently while creating an engaging environment for clients ranging in age from young children to seniors. The role requires demonstrating craft project instructions, performing face painting, and managing party enhancements such as goody bags and balloons, adhering strictly to company standards. Effective communication with both clients and store team members is essential, alongside completing related administrative tasks like emails, phone calls, and paperwork. Flexibility and creativity are valued traits, as the coordinator must be prepared to adjust event plans based on client feedback and develop backup strategies in case of unforeseen circumstances.
In addition to event-related duties, this role involves delivering excellent customer service by helping customers locate products and offering a swift, friendly checkout experience. The coordinator will also participate in daily operational tasks including truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and maintaining store cleanliness and safety standards. Cross-training in custom framing sales and production is part of the job, promoting a well-rounded understanding of store operations. The work environment is dynamic, requiring physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy boxes, and navigate the store efficiently.
The Michaels Companies Inc. values diversity and inclusion, offering a supportive work culture where employees can thrive and contribute to an innovative team. Benefits for team members encompass health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, tuition assistance, generous employee discounts, and more. Michaels commits to equal opportunity employment and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. This position is ideal for energetic, enthusiastic individuals with excellent interpersonal skills, passion for arts and crafts, and the ability to connect with customers of all ages to help them create unforgettable experiences at Michaels.
