The Retail Store Manager role at Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing daily operations at one of GCNA's retail stores, located at 9000 W Northern Ave, Peoria, Arizona. This full-time position offers a starting annual salary of $70,000 with eligibility for a monthly performance-based bonus after successful training completion. The role involves the comprehensive management of store production including people leadership, financial oversight, inventory control, and customer service excellence. As Retail Store Manager, you will lead Assistant Store Managers, Production Teams, and Donation Attendants, ensuring that store operations align with Goodwill’s mission of ending unemployment and providing community value.
The manager will develop and execute strategic retail plans to meet daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and operational goals. Coordination with the Retail District Manager is critical to implementing initiatives to increase donations and optimize product levels across various categories such as floor work, as-is merchandise, recyclable goods, and seasonal back stock. Managing payroll and operational expenses within budget constraints is also an essential function of this role. Ensuring a high-quality customer experience for both donors and shoppers is a priority, alongside maintaining a clean, welcoming, and brand-consistent store environment.
Additional responsibilities include community partnership-building to promote Goodwill’s mission, representing the organization as a frontline ambassador, and transferring between stores location as necessary to meet business needs. The manager will also oversee staff training and professional development, emphasizing customer service excellence in donation processing and product management. Collaboration with support departments such as Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, and Finance will further advance business goals and compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
This position requires reliable transportation for business tasks like bank deposits, attending training, and supporting various store locations. Performance management duties include coaching, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, staffing, compensation, and fostering a company culture rooted in the organization’s core values. The incumbent will play a vital role in promoting positive culture change and engage employees through consistent leadership practices. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years work experience in retail management, preferably thrift
- One-year customer service experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid drivers license and clean MVR
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position
- Ability to speak and read English proficiently

Job Duties
- Develops and executes retail operations plan to achieve daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for operating income, revenue, and production
- Coordinates with Retail District Manager to develop and implement strategic plans to help drive donations
- Monitors product levels daily to achieve bottom line sales budget against targets
- Ensures payroll costs and operating costs are managed to budget
- Ensures Team Members deliver excellent customer service to donors and customers
- Ensures store locations are clean, well-kept, and reflect the Goodwill brand appropriately
- Partners with community businesses and organizations to promote Goodwill mission
