Job Description

Barnes & Noble College is a leading retail partner for nearly 800 colleges and universities nationwide, specializing in creating unique retail environments that cater specifically to the academic community. We provide essential educational content, tools, and merchandise tailored to meet the needs of students, faculty, administration, alumni, and the general public within dynamic campus bookstore settings. Our commitment to delivering outstanding customer service and broad product offerings has established us as a trusted name on campuses across the country.

Barnes & Noble College offers an exceptional retail experience focused on supporting academic success and enhancing campus life. Our stores are not typical bookstores – they serve as vibrant hubs of campus culture, offering everything from textbooks and technology to school supplies, clothing, regalia, and food. This diverse product assortment ensures that we meet the varied needs of the college community while driving strong sales results.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Retail Store Manager to lead one of our flagship bookstores located at North Carolina A&T State University. The Retail Store Manager plays a crucial role in steering daily store operations, nurturing positive relationships with the campus community, and delivering measurable financial and operational outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a motivated team in a fast-paced retail environment where sales, leadership, and customer service go hand-in-hand.

In this position, you will be responsible for supervising employees and managing multiple departments while maintaining high standards for customer service and operational excellence. The Store Manager acts as the face of the bookstore, engaging directly with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to foster loyalty and ensure a supportive shopping experience. You will drive sales performance through effective business strategies, merchandising excellence, and inventory management.

The role demands strong leadership skills, including team building, talent development, and conflict resolution. You will train, mentor, and motivate your team to deliver exceptional customer experiences consistently. Additionally, analyzing sales figures, forecasting demand, and managing costs will be integral to maximizing store profitability.

Barnes & Noble College values innovation and adaptability, so you will need to embrace change, identify creative solutions to operational challenges, and act as a positive change agent within the store and the broader campus environment. Our ideal candidate is not only knowledgeable about all bookstore departments but is also a proficient problem solver who models outstanding customer service at all times.

Employment with Barnes & Noble College offers a collaborative work environment that supports your growth and success. We provide competitive pay and benefits, including paid sick time, 401(k) participation, daily pay access, employee discounts, and commuter benefits. Join us in creating the finest and most profitable bookstore for the North Carolina A&T State University community while advancing your professional career in retail management.
