Job Description
Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) is a leading general merchandise retailer headquartered in the Northeastern United States. Operating over 150 stores and generating more than $850 million in annual revenue, OSJL has established itself as a cornerstone in the retail sector. In addition to its retail operations, the company manages a shopping center business worth over $75 million, where OSJL often serves as the anchor tenant in more than half of its centers. The company is deeply committed to providing exceptional value to customers while fostering a positive impact in the communities it serves. OSJL champions responsible retail practices that reflect a modern, conscientious approach to business and sustainability.
The position of Store Area Supervisor at OSJL offers a dynamic and growth-oriented opportunity within a thriving retail environment. This hourly role offers a competitive pay range of $21.00 to $23.00 per hour, dependent on the candidate's experience and qualifications. OSJL encourages all qualified applicants to apply and remains open to discussing compensation for highly experienced candidates, reflecting the company’s commitment to valuing team members fairly.
In the role of Store Area Supervisor, the selected individual will take on the critical responsibility of overseeing the daily operations and merchandising activities within assigned store areas. Reporting directly to a designated Team Leader, the supervisor ensures seamless freight flow and maintains high standards of customer service. This role serves as an important stepping stone for individuals aiming to advance into leadership positions within OSJL. Supervisors are expected to guide their teams in aligning with the company’s T.R.E.A.T. customer service model, foster an inclusive and welcoming shopping environment, and support a collaborative team culture.
Store Area Supervisors are entrusted with a comprehensive set of duties, including schedule management, merchandise presentation, inventory control, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards. They play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between customers and corporate services, actively resolving customer concerns, and promoting company-wide initiatives such as loyalty programs, donations, and promotional campaigns. The role also entails training support for associates, helping to nurture talent and promote professional growth. Operating within a climate-controlled environment, the job requires physical involvement including lifting, moving, and safely using equipment, with a regular lifting expectation of up to 35 pounds.
Ocean State Job Lot stands out for its commitment to employee wellbeing, offering an array of benefits that include a 30% associate discount, generous paid time off encompassing sick leave, vacation, and holiday pay, as well as comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Flexible spending accounts, short-term disability options, and personalized healthcare support through Accolade Care add to the robust benefits package. Additionally, employees have access to tuition reimbursement, profit-sharing bonuses, a 401(k) retirement plan, referral bonuses, and unique vacation and discount opportunities through partner companies. This environment encourages associates to build rewarding careers while contributing to a socially responsible and community-focused retail company.
