The Store Area Supervisor role at Ocean State Job Lot is a crucial leadership position focused on overseeing daily operations and merchandising within designated store areas. This position ensures efficient freight movement while sustaining a superior shopping experience for customers. The supervisor will work closely under the guidance of a designated Team Leader, acting as a bridge to foster teamwork and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include championing exceptional customer service by applying the Company's T.R.E.A.T. model, facilitating strong relationships between customers and corporate support for timely issue resolution, and promoting company-wide initiatives such as donations, loyalty programs, and special promotions. Additionally, supervisors are responsible for creating effective work schedules, supporting team training and development, managing merchandise presentation consistent with company policies, and handling inventory control tasks such as verifying shipment pricing, managing backroom stock, and controlling sales floor flow.
Beyond operational tasks, the Store Area Supervisor is responsible for maintaining store safety and cleanliness, performing opening and closing procedures when designated, and operating cash registers as necessary. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One or more years experience in retail or related field
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs regularly
- Proficient with computers and software applications
- Availability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Job Qualifications
- One or more years professional experience in retail environments
- Prior customer service experience
- Training experience preferred
- Experience with merchandise ordering, receiving, stocking, and maintenance preferred
- Proficient computer skills including Google platform applications and Qlik
- Availability to work nights and weekends
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Job Duties

- Verify pricing accuracy of incoming shipments, report errors and discrepancies, and perform daily manifest checks
- Identify, separate, and display priority items effectively
- Handle packaways, Return To Warehouse shipments, transfers, recalls, and returns in accordance with company policies
- Uphold all store safety and maintenance standards
- When designated, supervise store operations, including opening and closing procedures
- Operate a cash register as needed
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
