Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a premier destination for creativity and celebration, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a strong online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as a leader in the arts and crafts retail industry. The company also owns Artistree, a specialty framing merchandise manufacturer, reinforcing its commitment to offering comprehensive creative supplies and services. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity, making it the best place for individuals and families to explore their artistic passions and create memorable celebrations.
Located in Huntsville-East, AL, this position within the Michaels store focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating events such as children's birthday parties and various craft classes. This role is pivotal in creating a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for guests of all ages, ranging from children to seniors. The Event Coordinator is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service by aiding shoppers in locating products, assisting with checkout processes, and providing insightful recommendations that enhance the shopping experience. Moreover, the role includes operational responsibilities such as merchandise handling, truck unloading, store recovery standards maintenance, and supporting company programs to uphold brand promises.
The Event Coordinator must skillfully manage multiple events simultaneously, fostering an environment of creativity and enjoyment through craft project demonstrations, face painting, and other interactive activities. Effective communication with clients and team members is essential to ensure events meet and exceed expectations while adapting to client feedback. Administrative tasks such as managing emails, phone communications, and paperwork are part of maintaining seamless event execution. Safety and cleanliness standards are upheld rigorously with thorough setup and breakdown procedures for each event.
Customer interaction is a core focus, including educating visitors about rewards programs, assisting with private label credit card enrollments, promoting voice of customer surveys, and facilitating omni-channel processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The role demands involvement in daily store operations such as stocking, planogram execution, merchandise recovery, and optimization tasks to ensure the store remains inviting and well-organized. A strong emphasis on adherence to standard operating procedures, company policies, and legal requirements underpins all activities.
This role calls for an enthusiastic, energetic personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of handling stress while maintaining a positive presence and respectfulness in all interactions. Experience working with children, particularly in event settings, retail or customer service experience, and creative problem-solving abilities are highly valued. The physical demands include standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, lifting and carrying merchandise, and occasional outdoor work related to store operations.
Michaels prioritizes team wellbeing by offering comprehensive benefits to full-time and part-time team members, including health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. This inclusive employer is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities, fostering a welcoming environment for all team members and customers alike.
