Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a prominent leader in the arts and crafts retail industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the United States and Canada, as well as maintaining a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is the ultimate destination for all things creative, offering a wide range of crafting supplies, framing products, and project ideas for customers of all ages and skill levels. Michaels is dedicated to fueling creativity and celebration, and its mission is reflected in everything from its extensive product selection to its commitment to customer service and community engagement. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing its leadership in the crafting industry. Known for its inclusive and welcoming environment, Michaels fosters a culture that encourages creativity, innovation, and teamwork. The company prioritizes the wellbeing of its team members by offering comprehensive benefits that support both full-time and part-time employees, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Michaels maintains a strong commitment to equal opportunity employment and inclusivity, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have access to reasonable accommodations to perform their roles effectively. This dedication to diversity and inclusion underscores Michaels' mission to create, innovate, and be better together.
Within its stores, Michaels offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about event planning, customer service, and creativity to join as Event Coordinators. This role is vital in enriching the customer experience by planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, designed to provide guests with a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience. The Event Coordinator plays a multifaceted role that encompasses event management, direct customer engagement, and operational support to uphold the high standards of the Michaels brand. The position requires managing multiple events simultaneously while creating an environment of fun and creativity for guests ranging from ages 4 to 94 and beyond. Responsibilities involve demonstrating crafts, performing fun activities such as face painting, and managing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons while adhering to company standards.
In addition to event coordination, this role serves as a frontline customer service position where the coordinator helps guests shop and locate merchandise, ensures a friendly and fast checkout process, and promotes company programs such as the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card enrollments. The Event Coordinator also supports omnichannel retail processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Operational duties include truck unloading, stocking, merchandise maintenance, and store recovery to keep the retail space organized and welcoming.
This position demands excellent interpersonal skills, including a strong ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members, handle stress, and resolve issues creatively. Experience working with children and organizing children’s events is especially important, as is a positive, energetic, and enthusiastic personality that aligns with the company’s values. Physical demands include standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, lifting, bending, and occasionally working outdoors or in stock rooms which may not be climate controlled. Michaels provides training and support, including cross-training in custom framing to enhance role versatility.
Overall, the Event Coordinator role at Michaels offers a unique combination of creative event management and retail customer service in a welcoming and supportive environment, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates excited about crafting, community engagement, and delivering memorable experiences to guests.
