Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a renowned leader in the arts and crafts retail sector, dedicated to fueling creativity and celebration across North America. With over 1,300 stores located in 49 states and Canada, as well as robust online platforms at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, Michaels stands as the premier destination for all things creative. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company also owns Artistree, a specialized manufacturer of custom framing merchandise, further solidifying its position in the creative retail market. Michaels is committed to providing innovative products, exceptional customer service, and engaging experiences that inspire individuals of all ages to explore their artistic potential and celebrate life's special moments.

The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels in Cedar Rapids-South, IA, is a dynamic and multifaceted position that plays a pivotal role in delivering enriching and memorable experiences to guests and customers. This position primarily involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events within the store, including children's birthday parties and various craft classes, ensuring that each event is fun, engaging, and stress-free. The Event Coordinator engages guests ranging from young children to senior citizens, fostering an environment of creativity and joy that aligns with Michaels' brand promise. Beyond event management, the role requires delivering friendly and efficient customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, guiding them through the checkout process, and enhancing their overall shopping experience. The Event Coordinator is also responsible for conducting operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, and maintaining store recovery standards to uphold the high-quality presentation and safety standards that customers expect.

This position requires strong organizational skills, creativity in event planning, and the ability to facilitate a variety of crafts and activities with enthusiasm and professionalism. The Event Coordinator will perform demonstrations, assist with party add-ons like goody bags and balloons, and ensure seamless communication between clients and store team members. Administrative duties such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing necessary paperwork are also integral to this role to maintain clear communication and client satisfaction. Flexibility is essential as plans may need adjustment based on feedback and unforeseen circumstances, calling for the creation of backup plans to ensure all events run smoothly.

The Event Coordinator will also have opportunities to cross-train in other store functions, including custom framing sales and production, enhancing their skill set and contributing to the store's overall success. This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, handle physical tasks such as lifting and reaching, and thrive in a retail environment that includes some outdoor duties and operates during nights, weekends, and early mornings. Michaels values diversity and inclusion and strives to provide reasonable accommodations to ensure all Team Members can perform their job functions effectively.

Working at Michaels offers more than just a job; it is an opportunity to be part of a creative community that values positivity, respect, and collaboration.
