Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retailer in the arts and crafts industry, renowned for fueling the joy of creativity and celebration across North America. Operating more than 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, Michaels offers a vast array of products and services that cater to creative enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is dedicated to being the best place for all things creative, constantly innovating to provide customers with the latest trends and high-quality materials for crafting, framing, and celebration supplies. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further broadening the scope of services offered to its patrons.
At the heart of Michaels’ commitment is creating an engaging and inclusive environment where customers and team members alike are inspired to design, innovate, and connect. The store location in Newport, KY, is looking to expand its team with a dynamic Event Coordinator who will play a pivotal role in delivering unique and joyful customer experiences. This position is permanent, part-time hourly, offering a competitive salary that reflects the responsibility and creativity involved.
The Event Coordinator position is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about event planning, customer service, and crafting to thrive in a vibrant retail setting. The primary responsibility is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate various in-store events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes that provide a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for guests. By ensuring these events are well-executed, the coordinator contributes directly to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Beyond event coordination, this role demands an active participation in regular store operations — from unloading trucks and stocking merchandise to maintaining the store’s recovery standards and ensuring a clean, safe shopping environment. Customer experience is central to the role, requiring excellent interpersonal skills to assist customers in their shopping needs, provide friendly checkout services, and educate them about the store’s rewards program and credit card offerings.
Attention to detail and organizational skills are critical, as the Event Coordinator manages multiple events simultaneously, communicates effectively with clients of all ages, and adapts plans based on feedback for continuous improvement. The role involves facilitation of party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, coordinating with the store team, and completing various administrative tasks like answering emails and handling paperwork. This position also embraces flexibility, with work hours that may include nights, weekends, and early mornings in a fast-paced, climate-controlled retail environment.
Michaels prioritizes a positive, respectful workplace where employees act as role models of the company’s values, fostering an inclusive atmosphere that supports team collaboration and growth. The Event Coordinator is cross-trained in custom framing selling and production and supports safety and shrink programs, contributing to overall store success and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
In return for dedication and creativity, Michaels provides an array of benefits including a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical, dental, and vision coverage, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, employee discounts, and more. The company is also committed to equal opportunity and ensuring reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. Joining Michaels means becoming part of a community that celebrates creative expression and shared success.
