In this leadership role, the Retail Operations Manager is responsible for people leadership duties, including recruiting, interviewing, and coaching store associates. They facilitate an optimal associate experience by supporting training, onboarding, associate reviews, labor management, mentoring, succession planning, and accountability coaching. The role requires managing and delegating daily tasks to ensure seamless store operations and outstanding customer service. Leaders are tasked with ensuring that associates follow proper operational processes to maintain pet safety and well-being. Furthermore, staffing coordination is a key component, ensuring all critical pet care and service areas are adequately covered. Effective communication to convey company priorities, recognizing outstanding associate efforts, and addressing complaints and grievances are also part of the leadership responsibilities.

Operational management is another critical area of focus for the Retail Operations Manager. They oversee the health and care of store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning in various habitats. The manager is accountable for inventory accuracy and processes, including receiving, stocking, counting, product rotations, and the execution of merchandising plans. Continuous evaluation of store operations to identify improvement opportunities is expected to enhance both pet parent and associate experiences. Maintaining vendor relationships, backroom organization, compliance with policies and procedures, and upholding a safe environment are essential daily management tasks. This role also includes oversight of specific initiatives such as Buy Online and Pick Up In Store, ensuring these services run smoothly.

The Retail Operations Manager drives sales growth and shrink reduction by holding associates accountable for meeting profit and loss objectives. They analyze inventory management reports to spot trends and root causes, managing expenses related to labor and supplies. Collaborating with Home Office partners, the manager ensures proper follow-up on work orders and purchase card allocations, ensuring operational resources are effectively utilized. Job Requirements

  • associate must be over the age of 18 except in Montana or where otherwise required by law

Job Duties

  • Participates in employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, and coaching
  • facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development including training, onboarding, associate reviews, labor management, mentoring, succession planning, and coaching for accountability
  • addresses and administers associate complaints and grievances
  • prioritizes, delegates, and validates daily tasks for associates to meet business and pet parent needs
  • leads and coaches associates on proper operational processes to ensure pets in our care are safe and healthy
  • coordinates staffing coverage for key store process activities
  • validates completion of assigned operational messages and engagement video compliance
  • communicates company information and priorities to associates
  • recognizes and celebrates associates driving overall engagement
  • accountable for healthcare of store owned pets including maintenance and care
  • oversees inventory management and pricing processes including receiving, stocking, inventory counts, product rotations and planogram sets
  • evaluates operations and seeks opportunities for improvement
  • maintains vendor relationships and backroom standards
  • oversees Buy Online and Pick Up In Store and Ship From Store programs
  • analyzes sales trends and merchandising activities
  • maintains store cleanliness and compliance
  • ensures a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents
  • reports and acts on sick or injured pets
  • responsible for store opening and closing procedures
  • drives business growth and holds associates accountable to sales and shrink targets
  • analyzes inventory reports to identify trends
  • manages labor and supply expenses
  • coordinates with Home Office for work orders and purchase card allocation
