The Retail Operations Manager (also known as Process Leader) at PetSmart plays a crucial leadership role in driving operational excellence within the stores. The role entails shared responsibility for various operational functions, including merchandising, inventory management, pet care operations, financial performance, staffing, and store safety. The Retail Operations Manager ensures the store consistently delivers quality service aligned with PetSmart's vision, mission, and values. As a pivotal figure in the store leadership team, the manager oversees daily store functions such as inventory control, pricing accuracy, pet care standards, employee development, and expense management. This role requires a hands-on leader who mentors and coaches associates, fosters a positive workplace culture, maintains compliance with company policies, and upholds the highest standards in pet care and customer service. The position is hourly paid with a competitive rate ranging from $21.86 to $37.50 based on experience and store location. This full-time role requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet business needs and ensure excellent customer service. The Retail Operations Manager will have supervisory responsibilities for a team of up to 40 associates, including lead associates, playing a key role in recruitment, coaching, performance management, and enforcing accountability. The role involves physical demands such as standing, walking, lifting, and working in environments with pets and noise. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 3 years of retail leadership or supervisory experience
  • full-time availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • capability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally more with assistance
  • effective communication skills
  • proficiency in computer software
  • ability to manage and mentor a team
  • physical ability to navigate store environment including use of ladders
  • willingness to work in pet care areas exposed to animals and related conditions

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years of retail leadership or experience in a customer-focused environment

Job Duties

  • Participates in employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, and coaching
  • facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development including training, onboarding, reviews, labor management, mentoring, succession planning, and accountability coaching
  • addresses and administers associate complaints and grievances
  • prioritizes, delegates, and validates daily tasks for associates
  • leads and coaches associates on operational processes to ensure pet safety and health
  • coordinates staffing coverage for critical store process areas such as pet care maintenance, hotel cleaning, and salon cleaning
  • validates completion of assigned operational messages and engagement video compliance
  • effectively communicates company information and priorities to associates
  • recognizes and celebrates associates driving engagement
  • provides oversight for healthcare of store-owned pets, including care and maintenance
  • manages inventory and pricing processes including accuracy, receiving, stocking, rotations, and planogram setup
  • evaluates operations for continuous improvement
  • maintains vendor relationships, backroom standards, and communication boards
  • oversees Buy Online and Pick Up In Store and Ship From Store programs
  • identifies and reacts to sales trends through analysis and merchandising
  • makes merchandising decisions regarding discretionary space and discontinued merchandise
  • maintains store compliance, cleanliness, and enforces policies and code of ethics
  • ensures a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents
  • takes immediate action and reports sick or injured pets
  • participates in store opening and closing procedures
  • drives business growth and holds associates accountable for store profit and loss targets including sales and shrink
  • analyzes inventory reports to identify trends and causes
  • manages labor, supplies, and other store expenses
  • collaborates with Home Office partners for work orders and purchase card allocation
