Located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the college benefits from its proximity to vibrant urban centers such as Harrisburg, the state capital, as well as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and New York City within manageable driving distances. Carlisle itself has been recognized as one of the "most livable cities" by Forbes, combining a charming historic downtown with eclectic dining, shopping, and entertainment options, lending a unique blend of small-town welcome and metropolitan accessibility. Dickinson College offers an intellectually rich environment where students engage deeply with diverse topics and develop critical thinking skills essential for global citizenship. This nurturing academic community places a strong emphasis on sustainability and global awareness, providing students with transformative educational experiences.
The college’s Dining Services department plays a key role in supporting this community by providing high-quality food service experiences to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Within Dining Services, the Retail Operations team focuses on delivering a variety of food products and excellent customer service at on-campus retail dining locations. This position is a full-time role based within the Retail Operations sector of Dining Services. As an Attendant, the role involves a blend of food preparation, guest services, and adherence to stringent food safety protocols.
This role offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction. It includes preparing quality food items according to set recipes, using proper food handling techniques, and engaging positively with customers to provide an enjoyable meal experience during multiple daily meal periods. Attendants may also assist in training new staff members and are expected to follow established policies and procedures diligently. The job requires adherence to HACCP guidelines, Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations, OSHA standards, and ServSafe certification standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate documentation such as food temperatures and packing data, handling special dietary requests and allergies with care, and promoting effective communication within the team.
Dickinson College provides a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, which promotes a supportive and healthy workplace. Employees receive medical and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, time off including parental leave, homebuyer assistance, and tuition benefits for themselves and dependent children under 24. The institution offers retirement plan contributions, with an 8 percent base contribution and an additional 0.5 percent match, all fully vested immediately, showcasing a robust commitment to employee financial security.
The position has physical demands including continuous standing and walking, frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, and stair climbing, and requires communication skills for interacting effectively with guests and team members. Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the academic period, with additional summer work opportunities during summer camps. The college’s commitment to diversity and equal employment opportunity ensures that applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged and welcomed.
In summary, this role offers an engaging environment for individuals passionate about food service, customer care, and contributing to a vibrant campus community at a leading liberal arts institution with strong values surrounding education, sustainability, and inclusivity. Dickinson College is an excellent work environment for those looking for steady employment with strong benefits and meaningful day-to-day responsibilities that support the well-being and satisfaction of the college community.
