Currently, Sodexo is seeking a Retail Manager 2-Food to join the team at Yale New Haven Hospital - York Street Campus, located in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale New Haven Hospital, one of the largest academic medical centers in the nation, is a prestigious and nationally recognized non-profit healthcare institution with 1,500 beds. It serves a richly diverse patient population and is committed to advancing medical care through research, education, and clinical excellence.

The Retail Manager 2-Food role is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the retail food service operations within the East Pavilion Café, one of six dining establishments on campus. This café caters to a wide demographic that includes patients, visitors, and hospital staff, operating seven days a week. The venue offers an array of distinct food concepts such as a salad bar, Tex-Mex station, global cuisine, pizza, deli specialties, and comfort food items. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and hands-on retail food service leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and possesses a passion for delivering exemplary customer service while driving team development and operational excellence.

In this role, the Retail Manager 2-Food will be entrusted with daily operational oversight ensuring the café meets the highest standards of food quality, presentation, merchandising, and service. Leading a team of approximately 20 frontline employees, the manager will cultivate a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence while ensuring compliance with Sodexo’s standards, HACCP guidelines, food safety regulations, and sanitation protocols. The manager will also handle scheduling, labor management, inventory control, cash handling, and financial oversight duties, guaranteeing smooth and efficient café operations.

Job Duties

  • Oversee daily retail food service operations within the East Pavilion Café
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop a team of approximately 20 frontline employees
  • Ensure exceptional customer service for patients, visitors, and hospital staff
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, merchandising, and retail standards
  • Support scheduling, labor management, and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Maintain compliance with Sodexo standards, HACCP guidelines, food safety regulations, and sanitation requirements
  • Manage inventory, ordering, cash handling, and financial controls
  • Partner with culinary, operations, and hospital leadership teams to drive continuous improvement
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence
