Job Description
The Retail Host position at Water Street represents an integral role within a dynamic retail environment specializing in the cannabis industry, specifically operating under the regulatory framework of Nevada. Water Street is part of a broader company that emphasizes compliance, customer service excellence, and secure retail operations. As a retail department member, Water Street focuses on delivering quality cannabis products while maintaining strict adherence to state laws and company policies. The company structure reporting up to regional and corporate retail leadership showcases a well-established organizational system aimed at providing consistent support and career growth opportunities for its staff. This position, categorized as non-exempt, directly reports to the General Manager and operates under a retail-focused hierarchy that values efficacy and professionalism in customer interactions. The role does not include supervisory responsibilities but commands a significant influence in the day-to-day operations of the retail space.
The Retail Host is responsible for supporting daily retail operations by assisting customers with accurate product information, processing sales transactions carefully, and backing essential inventory, security, and compliance activities. This customer-facing role requires a deep understanding of cannabis products and Nevada’s regulatory environment, ensuring not only a high quality of service but also that all transactions comply entirely with legal standards. This implies a need for attentiveness to detail, security protocols, and product knowledge, enabling the host to answer customer queries, verify eligibility, and maintain accurate records efficiently. Additionally, the Retail Host manages point-of-sale (POS) systems with precision, follows cash handling procedures diligently, and coordinates curbside pickup orders accurately, enhancing the customer experience through timely and compliant service.
The work schedule is flexible to accommodate the retail business's needs, often requiring evenings, weekends, holidays, and potential extended shifts. Core competencies revolve around professional and knowledgeable customer interactions, accurate transaction processing, compliance with cannabis regulations, inventory management, effective team communication, and strict adherence to safety and security protocols. Additional functions of the role include maintaining a neat and organized sales floor, supporting store leadership with maintenance and issue resolution, and upholding confidentiality standards consistent with privacy regulations.
Continuous eligibility for employment involves maintaining compliance with all legal and licensure requirements under Nevada cannabis laws, including holding necessary registration cards and passing criminal background checks and drug screenings. The position operates in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment demanding flexibility, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills. Familiarity with technology such as Windows-based software and POS systems is essential. The employer fosters an inclusive workplace with a firm commitment to equal employment opportunities, recognizing diversity and prohibiting discrimination based on multiple protected characteristics.
This position is well suited for individuals over 21 who are motivated by customer service excellence in a regulated retail setting and are capable of sustaining an environment prioritizing security, compliance, and professionalism. Previous customer service experience, while preferred, is not mandatory, allowing internal candidates or those with equivalent educational and experiential backgrounds to be considered. This opening provides a unique opportunity to grow within a reputable cannabis retailer focused on delivering exceptional products and services while navigating one of the most regulated industries.
