The position available is for a Freight Flow Lead within one of DICK'S Sporting Goods' retail stores. This role is crucial in maintaining the flow and execution of brand standards and enhancing the teammate experience. Reporting directly to the Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager, the Freight Flow Lead acts as the department expert, focusing on delivering outstanding service to customers while providing leadership and support to teammates. This role involves planning, organizing, and controlling store activities related to freight flow, workforce allocation, and daily task execution to meet company goals and brand standards.

The Freight Flow Lead is responsible for coaching and developing team members by offering hands-on guidance and support. This includes training new teammates, facilitating cross-training, and reinforcing company standards, programs, and processes. The position requires someone with a people-first leadership style—a leader who is empathetic, optimistic, and collaborative, setting an example through consistent performance and dedication.

Additionally, the Freight Flow Lead supports store leadership by assisting with general supervisory duties such as opening and closing the store, handling cash office functions, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations where applicable. The role also involves upholding merchandising and presentation standards, maintaining safety protocols, supporting loss prevention strategies, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive store environment for both teammates and customers.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • proven ability to lead and motivate a team
  • familiarity with retail operations and safety compliance
  • capacity to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • physical ability to perform manual labor and operate lifting equipment safely

Job Qualifications

  • Flexible availability including nights, weekend, and holidays
  • prior retail sales experience or customer-focused experience preferred
  • ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull and lift 15 to 50 lbs items repetitively
  • ability to work extended periods of time standing or walking
  • ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull and lift up to 70 lbs items intermittently with assistance or use of manual lifting equipment
  • ability to work at heights greater than 4 feet using ladder or aerial lifting devices

Job Duties

  • Supports building and hiring a strong team by observing in-store interviews and department tours
  • builds a people-first culture by connecting with every teammate in the store to build mutual trust and respect
  • plans, organizes, controls 30-days out with guidance of Assistant Store Manager including workforce alignment for daily assignments and projects
  • strategically leverages teammates to meet brand standards and execute daily programs and processes
  • assists store leadership team with general supervision including opening, closing, Front End and Cash Office functions in accordance with company policies
  • upholds company merchandising and presentation standards
  • assists with training teammates on company procedures and programs including onboarding new teammates and cross-training
  • prioritizes coaching and development of oneself and others providing hands-on coaching
  • leads by example supporting the organization's vision and store goals
  • creates an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and safe
  • adheres to safety, loss prevention, and operational procedures
  • takes an all-hands-on-deck approach to support the team
  • performs other tasks as assigned by management
