The role of Area Manager at Dollar General is an integral leadership position responsible for planning and executing the activities of all stores within a designated geographic area. The Area Manager must engage in rigorous planning and execution of company objectives while maximizing productivity through sensible scheduling strategies. Additionally, this leader is charged with the total development of human capital by proactively recruiting, selecting, and educating employees, thereby supporting continuous employee and customer development.

Protecting company assets through effective loss prevention and expense management is another key responsibility. The Area Manager must also identify and pursue new business opportunities within the operational area, which may include improvements in distribution flow, merchandising display efforts, store growth, real estate site selection, recruiting strategy, training and development priorities, employee relations, customer service initiatives, and systems implementation. A successful Area Manager communicates divisional and regional priorities clearly and consistently to all store teams, ensuring alignment and commitment towards corporate goals.

This position involves weekly travel within the assigned area using a company-provided vehicle, including limited overnight stays. Candidates must possess a current driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving history.
