The role of Retail Manager at Great Wolf is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and development of the retail department within the resort. The Retail Manager supervises a diverse team and ensures smooth, efficient operation encompassing merchandising, sales, inventory, and customer service. The Retail Manager’s responsibilities cover a broad range of business areas including store merchandising and design, inventory analysis, merchandise purchasing, and sourcing. In addition to managing the retail operations, this role also oversees a variety of attractions such as the Oliver Mining Company, Arcade, MagiQuest, MiniGolf, MiniBowling, XD Theater, and Ropes Course, among others. A key part of the job is to develop and control labor, cost of sales, and expense budgets while maintaining compliance with all operational and safety standards.

Staff management constitutes a major aspect of the role, involving employee-training programs, scheduling, payroll, and fostering a positive workplace culture. The Retail Manager ensures that sales operations, including POS systems, cash handling, and daily reporting, are conducted accurately and efficiently. Back-office administrative functions related to inventory coordination are also under the manager’s purview, requiring training and oversight of inventory systems and reporting.

Maintaining high standards in cleanliness, presentation, and service is essential to providing guests with the best retail experience possible. Job Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years retail experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience supervising/managing large retail department
  • Experience creating and maintaining documents with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Successful completion of criminal background check and drug screen

Job Duties

  • Oversees all merchandising functions including store display and design, inventory, tracking/analyzing, merchandise purchasing, par levels and pricing, merchandise/materials sourcing
  • Oversees operation of all attractions including: Oliver Mining Company, Arcade, MagiQuest, MiniGolf, MiniBowling, XD Theater, Ropes Course, and other attractions as necessary
  • Develops and manages labor, COS, and expense budgets
  • Manages staff including employee-training programs, scheduling and employee relations
  • Oversees sales functions including POS system, cash handling, budgets and daily reporting
  • Oversees administrative back-office functions of inventory coordinator, including training and maintenance of all department inventories, systems and reporting
  • Responsible for department payroll, tracking employee hours and making time-clock changes
  • Assists the Retail & Attractions Director in every day operations of all areas of the Retail Department, including gift shops, arcade, vending, and any other revenue producing venues
  • Ensures retail areas achieve the highest standards in areas of cleanliness, presentation and service
  • Develops, implements, and monitors programs ensuring a safe facility and work environment that complies with all appropriate regulations-Ergonomics, Emergency Responses, Injury and Illness Prevention, and Hazard Communications Programs
  • Orders and maintains supply levels
  • Ensures retail areas achieve the highest standards in areas of cleanliness, presentation and service
  • Adherence to all standard operating procedures related to the role
