Job Description
The Edgewater is a distinguished luxury hotel nestled in the heart of downtown Madison, Wisconsin, renowned for its striking revival of a historic property with 202 beautifully appointed rooms. Situated adjacent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and within walking distance of the Capitol Square and downtown area, the hotel offers unparalleled access to cultural, educational, and entertainment landmarks. Guests at The Edgewater enjoy breathtaking views and direct access to the scenic Lake Mendota, contributing to the property's unique charm and appeal. The hotel boasts three exquisite restaurants, a salon and spa, and hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, making it a vibrant social and hospitality hub. The establishment prides itself on fostering a welcoming atmosphere that mirrors the spirited community of Madison itself, committing to the trust and confidence it builds with employees, customers, and partners alike.
In spring 2019, The Edgewater enhanced its offerings by opening a new retail space known as The Market. This retail outlet specializes in a diverse range of products including luxury clothing, home décor, University of Wisconsin Badger-themed merchandise, gourmet food and beverage items, and made-to-order specialty coffee drinks. The Market, strategically located inside the main building at the bustling corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Langdon Street, serves as a convenient one-stop shop designed to meet the needs of local residents and hotel guests. It is here that individuals can pop in to grab a hot beverage, purchase a thoughtful gift, or browse unique merchandise.
The Edgewater Retail Agent role is central to the success of The Market, requiring motivated individuals dedicated to delivering superior customer service and creating memorable retail experiences. The position offers flexible scheduling with opportunities to work during days, nights, and weekends, catering to the dynamic rhythm of the hospitality environment. Employees benefit from working in a supportive team environment, utilizing top-notch products and equipment essential for providing excellent service. This full-service hotel setting ensures that every Retail Agent is equipped to meet customers' needs efficiently and with a high degree of professionalism.
As a Retail Agent, individuals will engage directly with customers to assist with purchases and provide made-to-order specialty coffee and espresso drinks using professional café equipment. This blend of retail and barista duties provides an exciting opportunity to develop skills across merchandising, inventory management, and beverage preparation. The role is well-suited for candidates with prior retail experience, especially those familiar with point-of-sale systems, handling cash and credit transactions, and maintaining product inventory. Experience in a restaurant or café environment is beneficial but not mandatory, as on-the-job training ensures competency in coffee beverage preparation and customer service excellence.
Working conditions include a professional hotel environment with exposure to retail and kitchen areas. Retail Agents utilize standard equipment such as cash registers, point-of-sale systems, phones, sanitation supplies, and espresso machines. The role can involve standing, walking, lifting items up to 50 pounds occasionally, and requires some evening and weekend availability including special event dates. The company offers comprehensive benefits for full-time staff, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, 401K matching contributions, and voluntary life insurance. Additional perks include discounts at the hotel's restaurants and spa services, discounted hotel stays, and subsidized parking or transit options.
The Edgewater is not only a place to work but also a community dedicated to high standards of hospitality, customer service, and employee well-being. This position is ideal for individuals seeking a vibrant, supportive work environment within a luxury hotel setting and an opportunity to grow professionally in retail and hospitality sectors.
