Job Description
Potbelly Sandwich Shop is a nationally recognized fast-casual restaurant chain known for its warm atmosphere and delicious, made-to-order sandwiches, salads, soups, and other fresh menu items. Established over 50 years ago, Potbelly has grown into a beloved brand that emphasizes not only great food but also creating a welcoming environment filled with good vibes. Their commitment to community, teamwork, and innovation drives their operations at every location. Each shop is staffed by friendly and enthusiastic associates who help deliver a consistent and quality customer experience. Potbelly's culture is centered around its core values which include achievement, integrity, community, and belonging, ensuring associates feel part of a larger family beyond just a workplace.
The Associate role at Potbelly is a part-time, nonexempt position focused on delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining efficient operations in the assigned shop. Associates are the primary point of contact between customers and the brand, making it crucial for them to embody Potbelly's values while being quick and accurate in preparing menu items. They prepare sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts adhering to established quality and presentation standards, ensuring each customer enjoys the same great experience with every visit. Besides food preparation, Associates engage warmly with customers, ensuring a friendly atmosphere and swiftly handling orders, whether at the counter or for catering pickups and deliveries.
Associates receive on-the-job training to become familiar with the Potbelly brand, products, and safety protocols, including food safety certifications where required by law. This role demands a high level of attention to cleanliness and safety, including following procedures to handle waste and operating within security standards. Associates are expected to multitask across various stations — from loading and dressing sandwiches to operating the cash register — demonstrating versatility and teamwork. Physical stamina is a key component since associates spend much of their shifts standing or walking and must be capable of lifting items and tolerating environmental factors including noise and allergens. Communication skills and the ability to work well with others are essential to succeed in this fast-paced environment, contributing to a vibrant and efficient workplace.
Working at Potbelly means more than just fulfilling duties; it involves representing the Potbelly Way, a set of behaviors and values upheld by every team member. Associates are encouraged to take pride in their work, support their team, and enhance the sense of community the brand is known for. Overall, the Associate position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking part-time work in a dynamic setting that values personal growth, customer satisfaction, and team collaboration. Candidates will have the chance to apply their skills in food preparation, customer interaction, and operational support while enjoying the flexible work environment of a Potbelly franchise. As franchisees operate independently, wages and benefits may vary; however, the consistent Potbelly culture and supportive management structure provide a positive and rewarding work experience.
