Truth be Told is a distinguished British Gastropub located within The Study at the University of Chicago, nestled in the vibrant and culturally rich Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. This establishment combines the quintessential charm and hospitality of a traditional British pub with the modern, sophisticated dining experience expected in an upscale urban setting. The gastropub features a menu carefully curated to blend classic British fare with contemporary culinary techniques, offering guests an inviting atmosphere to enjoy quality food and beverages. With operating hours from 7 AM to 10 PM daily, Truth be Told is committed to delivering exceptional service throughout the day in a warm, lively environment that makes every guest feel welcomed and valued.
The Study at the University of Chicago is the third property under the Study Hotels brand, known for its commitment to providing personalized guests’ experiences. The hotel itself boasts 167 rooms, a 100-seat restaurant/gastropub, expansive banquet and meeting facilities including a 2,500 square-foot Winter Garden designed for social events, and a fitness center equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. The hotel’s design embraces natural light and materials to create a residential feel, encouraging guest connection through active gallery spaces and cultural programming. As a Restaurant Support/Runner at Truth be Told, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the guest experience by supporting front-of-house operations with efficient food running and bussing duties. This full-time position requires weekend availability and demands a team-oriented individual who is enthusiastic about hospitality and delivering top-tier service in a fast-paced environment. The role focuses on ensuring all food orders are delivered promptly and correctly, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the dining area, assisting with table setups, and providing attentive, courteous service that reflects the gastropub’s commitment to excellence. With a pay rate of $12.70 per hour plus tips, along with a 50% employee dining discount and paid time off, this role is ideal for service-driven individuals passionate about hospitality and eager to grow within a supportive team.

Job Requirements
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- ability to grasp, lift and or carry goods weighing a maximum of 40 lbs
- ability to stand for long periods indoors with a thematically climate-controlled workstation
- satisfactory completion of background check

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 2+ years of experience in a formal dining or upscale casual environment
- excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
- proficiency in English
- strong organizational skills, including follow-up, time management, ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments
- ability to maintain a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times
Job Duties
- Provide the highest and most efficient level of hospitality and customer service expected by our guests
- perform other duties if required and as assigned
- help prepare room service trays with condiments, candles, napkins, service plates and utensils
- support the restaurant servers by running the food from the kitchen to the table
- ensure all side work is completed throughout the shift, including polishing silver and glass ware, certain roll-ups, ensuring water vases are full, reviewing par-levels
- expedite and ensure all food is up to par and consistent
- help monitor and observe guest’s dining experience to ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problems
